I was very fortunate. My late husbands mother was a ...... better not said. When she started to pick on me, a new bride, my hubby told her to get back on the broomstick and go home. She eventually came to respect me since I decided I wasn't going to listen to her crap. In the end we came to tolerate each other. Eve

When I told DH he was just
and suggested we get a bedroom door lock...
But it was not the first time she has whipped back the covers and got into bed next to me - regular occurrence when I was b/f babies.Unsurprisingly she does not do it when DH is about. Thank god f-i-l has never tried it!4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Locks on ALL the doors, and tell MIL you’ve got a full time job. I’m sure you can pick up some extra shifts at the foodbank, or just go and sit on a bench wrapped in a blanket… it sounds preferable 🙄5

In positive news, the child benefit has been paid - last month DS1 should be on it- and so I can go shopping.DS1 has started to make a list of things he should take with him to uni (any recommendations a bit 'under the radar' that you can suggest - gratefully received) and we should get an offer of a place in halls (when did students get en-suites??) before Wednesday.Dr F is getting his timetable to be back in the lecture hall (viral load is no longer a thing) for the up coming term, so he is stressed and panicky already. He is teaching a compulsory module, and it will be a lot of students all at once + his normal 2 classes + his MA classes.Going to try and blitz the whole awful business of school shoes and trainers, all in one go, starting at 11 when I get back from work. So it is raining - the weather witches did not mention rain today - so hoping it is just a minor shower.Flippin roadworks are doing my head in ( the Welf0rd improvements - for those in the know). My road has been closed off at one end for over a week. How long does it take to tarmac a pavement and put in those silly bobble slabs? Oh well, let's hope they are finished by the start of the school run. It is supposed to take 16 weeks, but I don't think we are even half way through yet, hoping they will be further up the road soon and bothering the fashionable Clarendon Park residents instead
. They will no doubt blame 'students'.

I feel your pain re school shoes and trainers. I have been begging ds to try on his uniform (not used since Dec 2020) to see if any of it is still useable but I am still waiting. The school uniform is regulation and can only be bought at one shop and the closer to the end of the holidays it gets, the busier the place is.
And as for your mil - I was very fortunate that mine died before me and ex even got married. 8 years of her was more than enough and I could only just manage with a week at a time (and don't get me started on Christmas). Good luck! Not giving up

Stupid lift at work had broken, so had to lug boxes down stairs, around 500 kg worth between us just to load the van. I have a bad case of Spaghetti Arms now, so we have decided to go shoe shopping, trainer shopping, and uni shopping tomorrow morning, early (for them! -10ish) and stop for coffee and doughnuts when we lose the will to live.DH is presenting his paper at the conference tomorrow, and it is going to be a hostile crowd ( beef and dairy farmers, and vets), so we will return after lunchtime, bolster his spirits, feed him a doughnut, and tell him he was very brave to beard the lion in his den. He is very nervous about this one.CCL the c/shops and even 0li0 round here are absolutely full of school uniform and blazers that are hardly worn at all, for that very reason. Annoyingly the new regulation branded PE kit will probably not get here in time for the start of term. The £3.50 blazer find makes up for that though.DS1 has just realised he is going to need pots and pans, and tea towels. It is very funny to watch him suddenly recognise he is going to be responsible for himself soon....4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

A1di had pots & pans on sunday in their specials so send him off there to hunter gather for himself, their packet pasta/couscous are fairly student friendly as quick don't need to think meals too. I think the random things I found I hadn't considered but needed at uni were drawing pins/bluetack, a bedside lamp & a padlock (we had lockers to put our kitchen stuff in)
If hes thought about pots & pans hopefully hes tied that into needing a plate, bowl and cutlery too
I hope the spaghetti arms recoil quickly- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted

Swagbucks, Mingle, GiffGaff, Prolific, Qmee & Quidco; thank you MSE every little bit helps4 -
The one thing my DGD has found useful at uni is a slow cooker as she loves stew type things and it's something that can be started off before going off to uni and be ready later in the day without no bother (think that's the main plus point!)

DS1 has an offer of accommodation at £150 a week in halls, so all bills included, next to the school of Engineering - it will leave him just under £6k to live on for 38 weeks. So about £500 a month. If my kid cannot live on £125 a week after housing expenses, he ain't my son! Mind you, a lot of people who know how to budget probably think thatPulled up a map of where he will be living, and all the free museums within a 5 mile radius, all the historical bits, all the touristy bits, all the parks and green spaces, and down by the river, he seemed quite interested. So now we go shoe shopping! Joy!Took DS3 out for a little run - poor thing hardly managed the 2km easy jog. They are so unfit! I know, I am unfit, so they can't even keep up with me, they really, really, are unfit.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
