How can you self isolate for 4 months when you can't even get a home delivery for 3 weeks? How can you get a friendly neighbour to do your shopping for you when you can't go out to get cash to pay them back for it? I know a couple of over 70s still working, if they self isolate they will probably lose their jobs, one at least will land up going bankrupt & homeless which is why he's still working & paying his mortgage. It sounds easy to do, but realisically, not so easy for everyone, especially if you have no-one to depend on.Sorry for the hijack!7

I have told step-gran in Northern Ireland that I can do an online supermarket order for her from here, and have it sent to her home over there. So if she needs it, just to give me a shout and I will do all I can for her. It is not much, but it is something. The foodbank will collapse if all volunteers over 65 self isolate. Nearly 40 boxes were sent out to various hubs and services yesterday, on top of the clients who came in for the normal 2 x weekly session. Having said that, it is supposed to be a 3 day food parcel but it really would do more like for a week if you were careful, or a larger family, and a few faces I saw were in 3 days ago, so they are stockpiling as well. I can't understand why you would ask for a new toothbrush and toothpaste and shower gel and shampoo every 3 days, but you can't say anything. Some people are just like that. So, self-isolation it is for us. DH's cough is worse this morning and he coughed all night. DS1 is grumpy about staying home (he cannot easily supplement his diet with the major food groups - caffeine, chocolate and crisps - as easily) DS2 is still asleep, DS3 is doing a happy dance in every single room of the house, and DS4 is wandering around muttering 'unfair' and ' she's totally over reacting' between coughing fits. Hey ho!I have decided I will try not to go out and get any shopping until it is v quiet at ys 'o clock - about 7pm, should be alright for a couple of days before the fresh stuff runs out. People are going shopping early on in the day, so I am going to go later. When only preppers and nutters are about.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Right then, all the beds have been stripped and remade, all mattress toppers nabbed and they will be washed and line dried and returned tomorrow. All walls, handrails, banisters, light switches, door knobs and finger plates have been disinfected. All kids bedrooms cleaned, all laundry put away, and all rooms had the windows open for at least an hour to be thoroughly aired. One loo cleaned, and now I am going to have a cold drink as I am knackered after dragging all the laundry downstairs.DH is in a bit of a sorry state this morning, after coughing all night, he aches, has a headache and feels a bit tight chested. So he is worried, and he comes from a long line of hypochondriacs at the best of times. I have distracted him and he is planning a lovely chinese for lunch (swine is now 2lbs lighter than me) and then I will carry on with cleaning the bathrooms and hoovering and then the top two floors are done and completely clean and tidy and I have a bag of rejected clothing and toys no longer required that can be laundered and sent off to the charity shop bag. If I am going to be at home, then at least I can bring a bit more order to the 'done' bits of the house, and make lists of what else I need to be doing to bring order to the rest of it. I mean, if we are going to be having building works done on every floor of the house, then the more stuff I can either jettison, or compact into a proper storage system, the better. And now is the perfect time to be doing it. As a reward I can read whilst doing the laundry and will tackle the ground floor tomorrow. I am pacing myself.I have sproinged something in my calf, carrying trays and trays of things up and down at the foodbank last night, and it is almost sciatica-like but with pins and needles. It is not painful, but is amazingly irritating.DH just popped his head in the door and said we urgently need table salt and he had just used the last of the vinegar so could I put them on the shopping list, so I went to the laundry supplies shelf above the washing machine and showed him my 'laundry vinegar' and 2kg of 'clothes dyeing salt'. So neither is on the shopping list, and dh is happily chopping up things for his chinese. The kids will just have to cope with not having ketchup and only having the choice between bbq sauce or brown sauce. They will survive!I got one of those W1cked brand chocolate brownie traybake things for £1 ys last night, so they can have their own suitably manly afternoon tea at 3pm instead of 'after-school snack time'. I can sniff the cardboard tray and have a cup of tea.The scales were flickering between 13. 5 and 13.4 this morning, so I am feeling motivated, and while motivated, it is easy to keep on going. 13.4 will be a stone lost, and then it does not seem too much of a push to be able to get sub 13. The beds were a workout in themselves. I am eating the right things, I have bags and bags of salad and plenty of pickles and day 1 of self-isolation is not too torturous, but then again, it is only lunchtime! We have enough milk to do us until Saturday.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

badmemory said:Once they get into their 20s they do grow out of it & realise which side their bread is buttered. At 8.45 bad mother here hasn't got off her backside & cooked tea yet. DS just laughed & said never mind you'll get round to it! My excuse was that I am reading on here & getting annoyed about being told I am elderly!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrr!I was 74 yesterday, I am not elderly, I may no longer be young, but elderly!! And when it comes to some little Hilter telling me I have to self isolate for 4 months or they will fine me & send me to jail (they actually mean commit me) frankly I would rather it was over my dead body because otherwise what would be the point?Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Don't know about suicide rates, but would bet divorce rates will rise, at least you can still go out at Xmas, but this being stuck at the hip with himself and the kids is rotten, we all have to be quiet, as, even though himself has the worst symptoms and is convinced he has CV, he is busy working from home and getting annoyed that we keep walking through the room he has set up in. I have had to cancel my volunteering commitments for the next 2 weeks, even though there is nothing wrong with me. They are expecting increased numbers with fewer volunteers.Next door seem to be beating the virus via sonic warfare - the bass on their stereo is driving me insane and I have fled the front living room where it is loudest. He can't really go anywhere else as he only rents the one room, it just so happens it backs on to where the back of my head likes to sit. At least I have other rooms I can be in, so I am being tolerant. Mildly annoyed, but tolerant.I think I am just excessively grumpy today.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Tell your neighbour to get some headphones or you'll remove the volume control from your kids and shut them in the room nearest him.
Tell DH that he needs to work in a room the rest of you don't need access to, where he can shut the door and get on with it. I've worked from home for over 10 years, as have many of my colleagues. It's perfectly possible even with other people in the house if you set up properly and everyone agrees the rules. You might remind them all that they are currently in YOUR workplace, so your rules apply. And presumably the kids have schoolwork to do? There are lots of homeschooling timetables about, and they all include things like 'compulsory family walk', 'yoga', 'chores' (including making lunch etc for the workers....) as well as schoolwork and plugging the kids into the internet. Friends who have both parents working full time from home and pre-teen children are currently working shifts to supervise/homeschool, so employers need to be understanding and employees are doing a lot of early starts/late finishes to get round this. Lots of articles on LinkedIn about how to work from home by people who have done it for years

I am anti-social at the best of times & tend to only leave home when I have to BUT & it is a big BUT just at the thought of being confined to home is making me feel stir crazy. There was I thinking I was a logical person!

I'm glad I live in a house, so I can go outside easily. It's only a very titchy garden, but it is so much more than a balcony or just an opening window.

I broke curfew this morning. Everyone else was still in bed asleep, I washed my hands, got in the car, went to Mr M's got out, used hand gel, did my shopping with one basket, took out £200 cash to have in the house, used hand gel, got back in the car, filled the car with petrol, used hand gel, was home by 7.20. The shelves in the supermarket had not been filled overnight. There was no fresh bread. Managed to get 3 litres of soy milk and 2 heads of broccoli and some pittas and wraps. There was a queue of about 100 at 7am when it opened. I used some amaz0n vouchers I earned from surveys on buying dried yeast (it is unavailable in the supermarkets and only one stockist online) when I got home. It is now make do and mend time. I am not going out again to shops until we run out of stuff. The earliest I can get a home delivery is 1st April. I am picking up DS4s school pack tomorrow. I will ring them from my car outside the school. They will leave it outside the school gate . They will go back in, I will go and pick it up and leave without touching anything else. I have no symptoms.DH's friends who are London civil servants were issued with their official govt letters yesterday, that they have to show if they are questioned by the police as to why they are out on the street, their jobs are vital for national security. That prompted my early morning flit to the house of Morris. Things are going to get a bit militant.Anyway. The kids got up at 8.30, the smallest 2 are now coughing quite badly. DH is really bad. I am not sleeping in the same room as him tonight. He is not even trying to take paracetamol or lemon-drinks, he is just feeling awful and working. He is an idiot. I have just told him he is sleeping alone and will be having medication every 4 hours or he will be sleeping in the shed.I am the only person dressed. In happy news I have now lost one stone since 14 January. So now 13.4, my next goal is to get down to 13.0. Rotten dh is at 13.2. So today I am laying down the law. Researching my teaching plans for each child, and starting to try and put some kind of routine into place. This is not a holiday. This is home school, without the trips.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
