I second Bletchley Park as a day trip - I haven't done it (although keep meaning too) but we too are close enough for a day trip and lots of friends have really enjoyed it and say its been done well.

depending on personality some have enjoyed the "codey" side and some have enjoyed the human story and others just like learning about the war so something for everything and definitely for the kids

plus if you were made of money there is an IKEA not far away - so meatballs (or veggie balls)
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

    He forgot .... again.
I love the look of bewilderment on his face when he realises it is May and he does not even know. To him it is just Wednesday. Oh well, nobody died. He loves his flowers. He is just rubbish.

Great news on the mortgage front f0xh0les we've started to make some over payments to ours (sadly considerably further to pay off) and it is satisfying seeing the numbers go down - just sweeping 'crumbs' from other pots has made a difference.

Oddly my OH is a bit rubbish at remembering family birthdays etc but always remembers our Anniversary....he's better at remembering the number of years than me :o Or perhaps he's recalling the number of years since he was nag free ;):rotfl:

Happy Anniversary, and congrats on the OP. I finally made my first one last month after putting it off during all the building work and upheaval.

If DH is useless with anniversaries at least you're justified in buying your own presents!

Oh dear I have been neglecting you! Three weeks without a word, how terrible am I?
Well I have not done very much to be honest, just the normal housekeeping nonsense, a bit of reupholstery of a footstool thing so it now looks nice and is functional instead of being functional but !!!!!!. Moved storage units around in the kitchen, put a load of stuff away, mucking about with seeds and seedlings, and now they are all living outside in their pots, not being mollycoddled and in and out every morning and evening.

The passport applications are done, and this pm the photos will be done as well. DS2 to the dentist after school tonight, 9 days til payday, 2 bags of stuff ready to go to the c/s.

So today is just some recreational hoovering, and a bit of tidying, and the rest of my day until 2pm will be on the sofa, or in a sunny patch behind my patio doors (so sunblock is not needed - my eyes are itchy cos of hayfever and sunblock + rubbing eyes is not advisable if vision is required).
DH has bought me a coffee machine that does ground coffee instead of the t0ssim0 pods I have been using - so that gets rid of one plastic coming into the house. I love it. It has a milk frother too. It is for my birthday, but I got it a whole month early as I signed for it, and it was not wrapped. Also he got an ex-display model for half price.

Went to Lidl for their ground coffee as it is supposed to be more North European style, and I love a german coffee bend, DH makes happy noises when he drinks it, which pleases me greatly, for some reason. Now what do I do with the T0ssimo machine? If I gift it, then someone else will be buying their coffee pods, if I take it to the recycling, then I feel I have failed. Answers on a postcard.

Renovations fund is sitting at £6.5k

Step-Gran is piling on the guilt - she is lonely and depressed (she says). She is still holding out for me bringing the kids over in Summer, but she is not well enough for that. She can only walk with a zimmer now, she is in bed by 6.30pm, and naps many times a day, she is grumpy and snappy and just wearing out. So either I go and book into a hotel, and visit every day - which she will not like as I will not be at her beck and call 24 hours a day and she will lose her personal chef, but she will resent the time I spend out with the kids, or I go, but don't take the kids and put up with her whining about not seeing them. I know I have to go back over there, but I do not have to inflict her on my kids.

What would be ideal, would be for DH to take the kids to visit his parents, and for me to visit with S/Gran and for us to drop in and have lunch together on the way to the boat. The she gets to see them, but they do not have to suffer her behaviour. But that will leave me there without a car, which is a terrifying thought. Been there, done that, never want to do it again.
So, next week is half term, DS1 has 3 days of extra study sessions at the end of the week, but there are 4 days when I am not playing taxi cab.

2 school days left to go.....
