    Thinking about new year's resolutions...
want to reduce plastic use - which means going back to bar soap. already ditched the straws, and found paper cotton buds, already recycle, but need to start reducing what I bring into the house. A lot gets reused as storage jars too.

Found jars of hair masks for 11p in Mr T's, and 'essences of herb' shampoos for 22p, so bought a few, and 40p deo, which will all keep me going for a good long time.

A quick delurk - I love your diary and find it very inspiring.

Have you thought about shampoo bars too? Gets rid of all the plastic bottles and I find last so much longer as 'people' are not able to squirt half a bottle of shampoo out every time they wash their half a centimetre of hair! I think they work out at much better value for money even though they look a little pricier at the outset (although obviously not compared to your 22p finds!). I have long thick hair and they work fantastically.

I use bar conditioner too. The jury's out on this though, it's strange to use but once my hair's dry the outcome seems the same

    m-i-l gift sorted by dh

    f-i-l still to do

Just spent £25 on 8 books for step-gran, to be delivered next week. She has confessed the new heart medication has made her double incontinent (it might be coincidence), and she is making a mess everywhere.
So that explains the reason why she has decided not to go out anymore.
With her mobility issues, cleaning up is not going to be easy if this continues. I will be making the journey over there more often in future, but I am not dragging 4 kids with me. Not anymore. It is unfair to them. She has decided she is going to sit in her chair and read until she dies. At least she has a plan!

So will sort dates and book flights today or tomorrow for over New Year - after DH goes back to work in Jan there is no chance, so it has to be now.

Will buy PS4 this weekend and get £10 off Arg0nauts voucher, and use it on DS4s birthday present (a tablet- £60).

I have plans! I can do this, get it out of the way, and get on with 2019!

Parcels are arriving now, so lots of sitting in and waiting, and ending up taking in parcels for all the neighbours.

Can I ask where you got the paper cotton buds from? I have seen some on line but wondered if a real shop sold them. They are one of the plastic things I want to replace when I have finished the last pot of the plastic ones.

Wilko, superdrug and Sains all do paper ones.

They came in really quickly after Dave's Blue Planet highlighted the plastic pollution problem.

Thanks both, I hadn't realised they were so widely available now as I am still on my last lot of plastic ones.

Just booked flights. - £130 I could have done without spending, but it can't be helped. It is on a credit card, so it can be dealt with next year.

The good thing about buying the kids consoles/games at XMAS is that you see much less of them until about the day after boxing day when they surface !!
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

Marvellous, I can cope with the day after boxing day, as I am away on 28th - 1st. Home for lunch on 1st Jan. Start the year as I mean to go on.

It will also give DH some much needed boy time with DS's - the house will no doubt be run with miltary precision and I will return to total order:rotfl:

It never hurts for them to realise just how much is done for them behind the scenes.

PS4 bought, - DH paid! He is getting involved in Christmas this year. :T

Just spoke to m-i-l - for the first time since she left at half term - so she could tell me what to wrap and for whom, and complaining she has spent more money than she wanted to. - Her choice!!

So at least now I know what she has decided on. and the rest is up to me.
Just need to get my car serviced & mot'd on Wednesday and then I know my budgets.

Having the car done in December and 2 lots of car insurance in January is a stupid idea. Very badly planned!

    Well!!

It has all gone boobs up over here in Fox Towers.

Last night DH made the executive decision to let DS3 and 4 stay up to watch the football - even though it started 15 minutes after their normal bedtime, so they were tired and mucking about when they were sent to bed at 10pm (what was he even thinking??????) I had tried to send them to bed at half time, and was met with - Dad said we could - and no backup from DH, so up they stayed. Then off they went to bed, when after about 3 minutes we heard terrible screaming.

They had decided to go and see how annoyed they could make DS1 on their way to bed, which had ended by him smacking them both round the back of the head to make them leave his bedroom when they decided the best thing to do was to jump up and down on him and run around his bedroom. He is 16, he should know better.

Which ended up with 2 upset smalls, two annoyed parents, one annoyed DS1 as he had his laptop confiscated,. .. and a partridge in a pear treeeeee. and DS2, the usual culprit for anyone being annoyed with, pondering loudly what the world was coming to when he was the best behaved child in the house, and had the world gone mad?

Skip to this morning, when the first words I heard from children ( knocking on the bathroom door -!!!!!! - year 16, and I still can't pee in peace) was, but you are still taking us to the pictures this morning, right?, erm.... let me think about that. So I went downstairs for a cup of sanity, and was met with DS2 gleefully hopping about as DS3 & 4 had decided to go through the stash of boxes and my bag and found all the sweets for the advent calendars - so now they know, I am the Christmas Fairy. who - by the way- is not visiting today as they is all horrible.

Then a quarter of the kitchen ceiling fell down. In a very considerate gesture, it completely missed the two jars of roasted peppers and two jars of sauerkraut on the table, while hitting every other bit of the table and kitchen floor.

I had recognised the secret coded message that the ceiling was knackered and would need replacing (the poly tiles), but did not expect half the ceilng rose to come down too. ho hum, all cleared up and the only fatality was a box of bran flakes.

The film we were going to see was Johnny English. - kind of fitting really.
