BUT that's not what is going on here. It's not silly rules trying not to offend people. Martin's decided to give the wording on our profiles an overhaul. Maybe people should just roll with it.
Well it sounds like as a board guide Martin must have let you know why has decided to change them - I didnt know you had all been informed. Apologies and Haribo Ill come with you:rolleyes:

But if he has done it because of a complaint about the word mad, then he hasn't actually considered the new words very well at all. Has he?
Perhaps there should be an option on what you want to be.
I do find the term geek offensive. It implies something I don't think I am.

I do feel a bit like I chucked a hand grenade into the Arms today but if I hadn't someone else would have. Anyway I've spent far too much time on here already. Better go and do something constructive.

Boy... Oh Boy... OH BOY !!!
What a right kettle of fish
I'm thoroughly confused and don't know what to think coz I can see things from both sides
Initially I voted that "the whole thing is lunacy" because it did seem like an extreme reaction in one sense.
But after reading the post of the original complainant I can also see where they're coming from whether they're doing it "by proxy" or not.
IMHO I think they made their views clear in a very eloquent way and the only reason they raised this was coz of Martin's recent work with MIND.
In that context alone I think it was a good idea to change the names but maybe some warning or consultation would have been an idea...!?!
My only experience of being called names was when I fell out with a "friend" who was spreading completely made-up rumours about me owing others money and when I went to her house to tackle her about it (in a very civil way I might add) but she started slanging insults - one of which was "Psycho" coz I've had PND since my youngest child was born ???
I wasn't offended though - partly coz a group of teenagers who happened to be passing at the time turned round and said that she was the Psycho for bawling hysterically across the streetand partly coz it confirmed that she really wasn't someone who I wanted as a friend as she was showing her TRUE opinion of me.
I have read all the threads I can find about this though to make sure I have the full picture.
I'm left wondering whether I'll be asked to change my sig though coz of the "Crazy Nutter Club" ???
I'm left with a couple of thoughts about this:
I can see why it needed to change but maybe it could have been handled a little better to avert all the fuss.
However I think it's a storm in a teacup - aren't there far more important things to worry about !?!?!You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:

Not that I care desperately (am kid of only making this post so I can see what my name has changed to) but why should one person's over sensitive view of the old name situation affect everyone?
It's ridiculous that one person should have such rule by playing the mental health card....
Maybe he/she should book him/herself in for a personality transplant.0 -

This is a part of my argument? Where is the line drawn? As I said in an earlier post, almost ANY adjective could be deemed to be offensive to someone.
(I agree there are probably more important things to worry about but this has been, at times, an interesting discussion:D )Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -
It does seem a bit ridiculous to change the names because people/ somebody found the words bonkers and mad offensive. I suffer from bipolar (luckily mild) and find neither insulting at all but to be told i have "no real life" - that would really wind me up.odi et amo0
