Wow!! Thank you so much guys!!
I've been stripping bedroom wall paper for the last couple of days and hadn't had much time or energy to pop on here. I nipped on here and WOW...thanks for all your ideas and thoughts on the matter.
Water - Yes I genuinely thought you still couldn't drink it lol! Mind you I have friends who drink bottled water in America rather than tap (were as I drink tap!!). I remember not being allowed ice cubes in my drinks when we were in Malta, admittedly that was about 25 years ago lol!! So definitely safe for brushing teeth but maybe some bottled water if you're drinking lots and have a sensitive tum. Will get some big bottles, especially as DH doesn't like the tap water at home let alone outside the UK.
Frozen bacon...that's commitment...although not as much as a beef joint! Amazing!!
Thanks for the CLC heads up. I've looked at it online and it does look lovely.
I am heading in to town tomorrow so will pick up some cereal while it's on offer, thank you all so much for that info.
We do have our post office credit card which has no international charges, that is our back up card which we only use for abroad so there's plenty of credit limit should we need it.
I now don't feel like a weirdo lol...will be taking cereal, snacks, crumpets etc and then will get the rest while we're out.
I'm genuinely very grateful to you all for taking the time to answer my questions and question my thoughts lol. :happyhearSaving for Disney again, oops why book one Disney holiday when you can book two!:starmod: Emergency Fund Savings - #148 - £10/£1000 1% :starmod::xmastree:#083 SPC6 £63 - SPC7 £90 - SPC8 £63 - SPC9 £54 - SPC10 £26 - SPC12 £70 :xmastree:0 -
OP, if you decant some condiments like salt, Pepper, sugar etc and take them with you, it will save you buying them to cook with over there. I always end up buying salt and pepper if I forget to take some with me, as you may find the cleaners have cleared the cupboards out of everything prior to your arrival. They are not exactly cheap over there.
You could do what I have done i the past and raid a McDonalds for S&P sachets, maybe even the sugar, lol
When we were kids, My mum and Dad used to take 6lb Bacon, 4lb sausages and boxes of cornflakes. Also Powdered soup, which mum used to use to make things like Chicken casserole etc, Just bought a boiling chicken in a local Butchers. Used the soup mix for stock/thickner.
We used to have 2 course dinners each night, made on a 2 ring hob, no oven and a full English every morning.
One time a 8lb piece of Silverside came with us ! God knows how she cooed it.
That was the war time spirit instilled in both of them, plus Dad didn't like eating out much, used to say Mums food was better.
Buy the cheapest 5 or 8 litre water, dont go for branded water, you can get a 8litre bottle for say 1.20 Euro. Get a Taxi or Bus to an Aldi and stock up on canned drinks for the holiday, will save you lots over buying in small shops.
Take a couple of shopping bags with you, saves the money they charge you for bags over there, it all adds up !0
