I would until recently sing the praises of John Lewis and their customer service.
However my last 2 purchases of electrical items leads me to think their customer service has declined.

Firstly going into a branch we had to wait 10 minutes while a manager found a member of staff to answer queries about a product. Then having selected our item it was out of stock, but we placed an order and given a customer request number and told we would be contacted when it came back in stock. When we heard nothing after a month I checked on line and it showed in stock.

Also I don't like their system of having to ring a call centre for information I much preferred the old system of being able to ring direct to my local branch.

This seems to be happening across the board now. I have experienced the same with Selfridges and Yorkshire Bank, either impossible to ring the store directly or have the go through the rigmarole.

Australian Tax Office - yes really!

Had occasion to phone a couple of days ago (to Victoria). Two rings and answered by a human, briefly explained what I wanted, transferred me immediately and second person said she could see I was phoning from overseas, asked for my number and said she would ring me back to save me the cost of the call, which she did in just the time it took to dial. Amazing!

    More usually, brilliant cs from:
    Amazon
    Plusnet
    Asda Opticians, Lower Earley, Berks.

I must have received bad CS at sometime although I can't remember, but to be honest I've found that often "it's all in the approach", and being realistic in ones expectations.

Believe it or not, npower. I can see why their reputation is so bad, they regularly mess up my account so I speak to them fairly often but, in the majority of cases, the customer service is good and sometimes it is excellent. The last time I had dealings with their complaints department, the customer service was faultless. I even posted on here about it, I was so impressed. Cheers.

Of those known for good customer service, NatWest bank. Consistently very good.

I've never had a problem with Sky, always find them very good and easy to deal with. After every call I make I am always paying less money by the end of it

Try to leave them - you may have a different opinion once the haranguing starts.

    The Good

I should mention Santander - not been a problem free 12 years since they took aver Abbey, and they get a lot of hate, but overall pleased with them. Won't be so pleased if they reduce the interest on the 123 though.

Plantronics who send out advance replacements with very little fuss.

Amazon - although the site seems to be getting a bit wild west and more like ebay daily, returns and issues are still dealt with very well.

    The Bad

Google - "don't be evil" but it's OK to be a bit hopeless.
    Autoglass
    Easyjet
    NS&I

    The Ugly

British Gas - clueless, overpriced, terrible at responding to legitimate complaints. Won't ever go near again.

John Lewis always go the extra mile to fix a problem, I've found. I think they deserve their reputation.
John Lewis, every time! I've also found AO to be great for electricals: their processes really centre on the customers experience.

Nil points or less to Currys and IKEA for deliveries.

Another vote for Sky- I rang the other day about my broadband speed being very slow. Spoke to a nice Irish chap who ran some quick tests, agreed there was a problem and said he would get an engineer out to sort it. 45 minutes later- knock at the door, engineer was in the area so he called by on the off chance I was in. Likewise- dish went faulty a few weeks back, lovely chap came round and sorted it quickly and even connected up our Sky box to the router so we could watch catch up. Never had one single problem with them- OH has had a Sky subscription for years and in the ten years I've lived here I've always found them to be polite and efficient on the odd occasion I've found it necessary to call them.
And believe it or not- Ryanair! Flew to Ireland with them last week- I've got quite a lot of complex disability needs and they were really good with it. I got quite upset in the airport as my sensory overload kicked in and I got really distressed as the woman pushing my chair was continually asking me things I didn't understand- but one of their lady staff came out from behind the desk, introduced herself to me and was very kind and patient and explained things clearly to me so I could answer and understand. I thought that showed wonderful disability awareness- she wasn't patronising and I very much appreciated it. The staff on the plane were also pleasant and helpful, I know they get a lot of grief but I honestly can't fault them.

On the flip side- worst companies to deal with- EE (although occasionally you might get a rare gem who knows what they are doing and has some customer service skills) Santander (thank god OH has paid off the mortgage and got shot of them- horrible people) Sports Direct (being a Geordie I hate Mike Ashley anyway but the customer service skills are none existent) Scottish Power (worse than clueless and that's if you can get through the interminable call queue)

    Excellent customer service.
Virgin media and EON,never had a problem getting anything sorted.

    WORST ever for me
Boots opticians, very poor service, staff look at you like you shouldn't be there when you need a repair done to specs, they can't wait to get rid of
you, they only deal with you "nicely" when you are spending. Most of them look miserable all the time.
