Using your mobile number in Comps

Options
Hi

This may be a silly question, however I was going to give this a try for the first time.

Can I ask do you put your own mobile number when entering comps ? and does this result in alot of spam calling ?

The tips say get a free sim, but how do you know when they are going to call to keep swapping your sims around ? or do you have a spare phone which is just on all the time ?

Or are the comps generally posted on mse from genuine decent organisations not interested in selling your details etc

or do they write to you and email you as well as phone you to tell you have won ?

Any advice appreciated.

I have a phone just for comping. It was originally my daughters phone which was no longer wanted when she upgraded. I replaced the sim with a free PAYG one. I very rarely get any spam calls on it, indeed, I get lots more on my normal mobile which isn't used for comping.
I don't very often get win notifications by phone, many more come by email. Having said that, the most valuable prize I have won was notified by phone.

I give my own personal mobile, considering I enter many comps a day I don't actually get that many spam calls. I'm always mindful to tick no 3rd party/no marketing calls etc...

When the odd call is received, I just block the number which is easy enough.

    Hope that helps :)

I use my own, and get very few spam calls - most of which are automated voices so could have been randomly generated anyway. And easily blocked

I also use my usual mobile and very rarely get a dodgy call. Most of my wins have been calls, but that tends to be for tickets. We also get more on the home number for some bizarre reason (despite being signed up to the wotsit to stop them).

Thanks All and did you setup a separate email address as per the tips, or just used your normal one ?

Also when they call do they ever leave a voicemail if you miss the call ?
  • I use my own phone number and average 1 spam phone call a month, I hardly get any.

My email address started as my personal one that I used for everything but the amount of newsletters I get started to rack up too much, so I created another account for important things (job applications for example) and use my old account for everything else.
  • I also use my own mobile and get very few spam calls. I get a few spam texts but they don't really bother me. I have never had a win notified by mobile unfortunately.
  • I use a separate mobile to my own with a PAYG SIM, I call it my Batphone. I get very little spam on it but it does get more than my own mobile. Most of my wins are notified by email, some by letter and only a small number on the Batphone. The last time I had a phone notification was from Metro Radio a year ago when I won £200. I did get a call in June this year from Napoleon Grills when I won a bbq on the Red Tractor promotion, but that wasn't a notification but just arranging delivery.

I also have a separate email address to my own one which does get a lot of spam even though I always tick the boxes to opt out, it doesn't bother me as it's a disposable email address. I did change to another email at the start of this year as over the last year or so my wins were decreasing and I had this feeling it may have been blacklisted. But since changing to a new address the wins are getting even fewer, so I don't think it was blacklisted, just harder to win this year. I will probably go back to my old email as I preferred it anyway, it was also a lot shorter to type too.
