Curtains and Blinds - where and how much?!

  • I would most certainly not recommend using Hillarys to anyone, as they have had the most appalling and disorganised customer service I have ever experienced. I wanted to order a blackout blind for my 1 year old's bedroom - it has been over two months since I first contacted Hillarys and nothing has been sorted, due to a ridiculous number of confusions with appointments, lack of record keeping, differences between the website and reality and crossed wires between their staff. I have decided to go with a local blind company, even though the blinds are twice as expensive. It just isn't worth it.
  • What would be useful for some of us is knowing where it's possible to get curtains (ready-made or made to measure) in natural fabrics.

I've done a lot of searching around recently - and can only seem to find ones in more "artificial" type fibres. I like my fabrics natural or at least looking/feeling natural (be they clothes for me or material for the house).
  • https://www.naturalcurtaincompany.co.uk - do natural fabrics - ready made or made to measure.

Hillarys might be rubbish but I've always been pleased with speed of service, quality and price from their subsiduary web-blinds.com. Lookout for sales (register your email with them) and also Quidco cashback. For curtains, I've used an Ebay seller called "bearswithattitude" in the past. No connection, just a happy customer.

  • Fwiw, I used insignia blinds . Very professional. Made an appointment on the phone . Nice chap measured the windows . Quoted me cost.
Had a call from the office as to when blinds were available , and appointment with fitter arranged . Fitter turns up, and installs 9 wooden Venetian blinds in approx 2 hours . Bay window in living room. They look fantastic .

I nearly forgot , that it depends where you are in the country . If there's one near you, you could enquire ?:)

I've recently bought several roman and roller blinds from blinds2go.co.uk. I've also bought curtains from next made to measure (when on half price clearance, though still expensive!), and vertical blinds from a locally based online firm shop4blinds.co.uk.

Made to measure at least triples the cost versus buying off the shelf. When I first moved in I fitted off the shelf everything - vertical blinds can be bought in kits, and are quite straight forward to cut to size and achieve a good finish. Roller blinds are far more difficult to get that straight finish if cutting them.

Take a look on ebay - there are lots of small firms selling ready made blinds, and can be far cheaper than the big names.

soeasyblinds. Used them 3 times now and probably spent close to £2k with them. Can't recommend them enough. Recently had one that wouldn't retract after 10months. They sent a replacement no questions asked. I couldn't even remember my order number but they traced it.

Also bought blinds from blinds2go.co.uk. For curtains, most recently have bought ready made from Laura Ashley, 40% off in a sale. Usually buying ready made and paying for them to be taken up is cheaper than made to measure.
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.

Won't comment on curtains as bought mine from different places and usually when they were on sale :) but we bought some blinds from this place and were pleased with speed of delivery, customer service and price. This was definitely cheaper than buying them in-store or from the likes of Hillarys. They also sell curtains.

This. Just be careful with the measuring.
