Since my husbands heart attack last year, we have made an effort to spend more time together, so this week we've revamped our shed and garden(believe me it needed it, although still waiting on our Son to cut the grass) been to a national trust house, Benjamin Franklin house, spent an afternoon in Covent Garden had 2 meals out, a quiz night, a bat walk and so much more. Do what interests you, we have always been close but now we cherish our us time so much more, we are lucky to live ear London with so many great things to do.....

    I've been Money Tipped!
Me (early 60's) and OH (late 50's) go to the cinema quite a lot. We also go to the theatre, local and London, art galleries, museums, castles, stately homes, for long walks in the forest or on the beach (usually with our dog).

We also often go to open gardens which is interesting and fun. We especially like the small gardens which the owner only opens once or twice a year for charity. Sometimes an area has a number of gardens open for 1 day and that can fill a whole day and only cost around £5 plus quite a few people serve tea and cake! Recently we visited 8 local gardens - just ordinary back gardens and we both really enjoyed it.

We do like eating out but it has got so expensive now we have cut down. We do like to go to a coffee shop and sit outside so we can people watch though.

I have several "couple" friends who do not have children and they have weekend breaks away, go to the theatre, cinema, camping festivals, have regular meals out and go to music gigs. One couple joined a learn to jive dance class and now seem to be often at adult only weekend dance events in different parts of the country. My aunt and uncle once theri chidlren had left home, purchased a camper van and used that to tour different places. One couple have a dog and they go places most weekends with the dog either locally or staying away in dod friendly places.

We go for long walks in the countryside, visit random seaside towns for ice creams and cream teas, hire bikes and go for a ride, visit museums, watch films, go on day trips to places like The Eden project. Sometimes we just sit in the garden and read.

Well, we used to do all that.
Now we just play Pokemon Go.

We also turn up at everything that's happening in the community. I never knew going on a car rally ( charity event) would be much fun but we had a fantastic day. We go watch ploughing comps, tractor pulls, whatever is happening we will rock up to

Obviously I live in a rural area, but pop into the library or look in the local papers to see what's happening in your area

We just get out there and join in.

This is really helpful thanks, we live in a rural area too.
    Now living within my means!

My other half and I are both months away from touching the big 50 and don't have children. We don't go abroad for holidays any more as we have seen everywhere in the world we want to see and now realise the best places in the world (IMO) are on our doorstep as we have the Lake District, Morecambe Bay and the Yorkshire Dales on our doorstep so consider ourselves very fortunate. We can literally wake up and decide where we fancy to go-either a stroll in the Lake District, down to Morecambe for the sea air, a bracing walk followed by fish and chips sat out on the seafront or pop into the Yorkshire Dales for a walk through the glorious fields and a pub lunch in on of the village pubs. We plan at the start of the year what we fancy doing in the summer that is different and not on our doorstep such as a pop concert and make the most of it by making it into a weekend break-this is in cities such as Edinburgh or Newcastle Upon Tyne which we like. We have been to two airshows this year-Sunderland Airshow and Blackpool Airshow which are both free. August bank holiday weekend this year we are going to The Big Feastival although we are not brace enough to camp and are staying at a hotel just off the M40 so making it into a long weekend.

This could be a remarkably insensitive comment! You don't know the OP's circumstances

What a stupid thing to say!. Any one of the suggestions made in this thread could be inappropriate for the OP for one reason or another, but it doesn't make it insensitive because they haven't specifically stated any reason why any activity would be unsuitable!.

But back to the OP, with the "meerkat movies 2 for 1" offer you can go to the cinema every Tuesday or Wednesday and it won't cost much. Like others my partner and i always go out for dinner a lot and like to try different places, so we regularly travel to restaurants an hours drive away for an evening.
We also go away a lot for weekends in hotels and in our caravan (which is a very cheap way to go away for a few nights).
We also go places with my brother and his partner so between the 4 of us we always have somewhere interesting in mind to visit, or know of an event going on locally.

You live in Lancaster and are struggling for things to do.

some cracking pubs and food places,

theatre like the Dukes & the Lancaster Grand or the story

you could cycle the morecambe bay cycle route or just get out and go for a walk.

there are some great museums like Lancaster Castle or the Maritime Museum.

I would definitely recommend dance classes.
    Cinema
England heritage places (some aren't that expensive)
    National trust
    Wildlife
Cycling - doesn't have to be full on, you can ride to a pub for lunch
    Museums
We bought some books with walks and that's a really cheap way to explore
