Booking an ultrasound

Could you not change your other September appointment?
However, I think it's ridiculous that you cannot telephone to arrange for your scan. Sending out letters is a bit of an outdated process.
No I'm already in an overbook slot for that as it was moved forward, and his diary is full. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I feel for the OP. I don understand why the hospital have these rules as they get messed around by people but the OP has two genuine reasons they can't attend. An expensive holiday abroad is not something you can easily cancel/delay and the next appointment they have a another pre-booked medical appointment that can't be moved (its not as if they are refusing to go because they have a hair appointment scheduled!). In these cases where the person can prove that they had to make two unavoidable cancellations there should be exceptions made.
OP can you go back to your GP and ask their advise, you will only be able to attend one of your appointments, maybe the GP can advise which is the most important to your health right now.0 -

How can the NHS be free if us as taxpayers have to fund it with some of the money we pay to the government?
But if you did argue with the police I am sure that would be the argument you used....
We pay taxes.
The government provides a free National Health Service.
The two things aren't linked.0 -
The fact that the government chooses to spend some of that income on the NHS is irrelevant. The government could decide tomorrow to stop providing a free health care service. You would still pay the same level of tax though.
Therefore it's a free service.
What a wonderful country the UK is.
We all get free health treatment, a free police service, free schooling for our children, free use of the roads, roads that are also maintained free of charge and not to mention all of the councillors, MPs and other public employees who are also provided totally free of charge.0 -

Yep. It is a lot more than people in other countries get.
No matter your salary or lifestyle you get the same free services above. It's fantastic.0 -
Personally if I was suffering from ill health for a while I would prioritize an ultrasound appointment over my holiday.
The NHS is a free service, complaining that they won't schedule their expensive medical procedures around your other commitments seems a bit churlish!
Meanwhile, from another thread:Edwood_Woodwood wrote: »I agree that the NHS should not be knocked, however, I'm curious as to how you believe the NHS is a free service?
How is it funded?:undecidedI didn't say it was a free service. I said it was a free at point of use service.
if you go to a hospital or a doctor it is free.
There is however a cost to every UK tax payer for running the NHS but that is a different point to the one I was making.
So you think it's a free service or it's not a free service depending on who you are discussing it with.0 -

I think that thread was around a year ago. I'll ask you to confirm when it is as you've obviously gone through all my posts to find that.
I've had a rethink since then as I was debating it with someone a few months ago and he convinced me I was wrong and it was a free service.
It's ok to change your opinion George. If you've never done it yourself then that is a personality flaw you want to work on.0 -

Only a fraction over 6 months ago actually.

So if you think you were wrong a few months ago, maybe you are wrong now. It's something worth considering isn't it?0 -

Yes potentially I could be wrong again.
I would however need a better argument from you than "we pay tax" to convince me you're right and I'm wrong.0 -
