RAC Breakdown cover

Hi Folks,
I took out a breakdown policy with RAC (never again), i only took the policy because i forgot to add it to my van insurance. 12 months have past and i added breakdown to my van insurance, now RAC are asking for payment because they say that they have an automatic renewal service. They never told me about it, they never mentioned it before the 14 days of cancellation had passed. No letter, no email, nothing. They were demanding full payment from me for £128 even though i told them that i only bought a 12 months policy, thats what i paid for. Now the payment has dropped to £25, i keep telling them i wasn't informed outside of 14 days cancellation period, only after that it went past 14 days did someone email me asking for full payment as it was overdue, i told them that i bought 12 months and that is all i wanted, no letter no email not even a phone call to tell me that my renewal date for my policy is due. All they tell me is that i needed to read the small print and that the policy is automatically renewed when the policy is coming to the end. Now they are saying that they are passing it to their legal team and the amount can increase, i told them thats fine because i incur costs too because i have a business to run and sending emails to you is wasting my time.
Where do i stand on this matter, any help and advice would be grateful.

So did you read the T&Cs when you bought the policy?
If not and they do state it will be auto-renewed it's quite clear the error is yours. If not then you need to lodge a formal complaint with them and follow their complaints procedure.0 -
i didn't read the terms and conditions, who does these days, i thought the policy was for 12 months and that was it, i didn't get a letter telling me that the policy was coming to renewal date. not until after the 14 days, they contacted me telling me that i owe them money. i dont keep track of my policy because i had breakdown cover with my insurance, i missed it from my last insurance cover, i only wanted 12 months cover.

I cancelled my RAC breakdown cover 14 days before it was due to automatically renew on the 1st August. I checked my bank account online about 45 minutes ago and found I had been charged £104.75
I phoned the RAC and after speaking to 2 people they agreed to a refund but said it would take from 10 to 27 days before I got the money back in my account. I told them it was wrongfully taken from my account and that I required it to be returned to my account within 24 hours. The guy then said maybe 3-5 days as he was not authorised to return my money any faster. I told him I was not happy and would take the issue up with my bank.0 -

This also something most people do
Do you have the statistics to prove this. unless you can prove this.0 -

Doesn't make much sense but is actually irrelevant. You've admitted you didn't read yours so I don't think you've got much chance of seeing your money again. That said it's probably worth a complaint if you can be bothered, the worst they can say is no..... again.0 -

What doesn't actually make sense. Where did i say that i paid money to them, did you actually read my post, or are you looking at posts to pick on.0
