I was 43 when i had my daughter. The triple test showed a 1 in 17 risk for abnormalities. I was advised that if i wasn't going to consider termination then to consider not having any tests. As we already had a 15 year old son, we felt it was appropriate to have the tests as because we were older then he would have been left to look after his sibling once we had passed away. We didn't feel it would have been fair on him.
I had a chorionic villus test and was given the all clear the following day. I did have to have 3 further amnioscentesis tests due to other issues during the pregnancy but thankfully, everything was ok and my daughter arrived 5 weeks early weighing 3 and a half pounds !
The only thing i find difficult now is the constant barrage of chat, she's 16 now ! It gets really wearing and i have to bite my tongue when there's yet another teenage girl drama unfolding. I love her to bits, we do lots of things together, we even went paragliding together last year on holiday ! I do get tired but all Mums get tired, whatever their age !
Socialising was difficult when she was small but that was mainly due to my ex leaving us when she was 2. I have a great social life now she's old enough to stay home alone ! You just have to make that sacrifice whilst they're small, it's no big deal for me really.0
