:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: at sooz
I can't stand that woman (Nigella that is, I'm sure you're lovely sooz) With regards to her recipes I can't wondering if when cooking off screen she doesn't measure anything and just does it by eye, and then when it comes to writing the recipes down the proportions are wrong
Two recipes I wouldn't attempt again come to mind - one was Jamie's parsnip and pancetta pasta, the other was from a Waitrose recipe card for Pancetta and pea pasta with mint. The pancetta wasn't the problem with either of them - I just didn't think that parsnips went with pasta, and the Waitrose one tasted like a bowl of pasta with bacon with a tube of minty fresh toothpaste squirted all over itDFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :TDAVID TENNANT CAN PROBE ME WITH HIS SONIC SCREWDRIVER ANYTIME...:AFLYING THE FLAG FOR THE CAMBRIDGE BOOTS TARTS :happyhear0 -
I'm SO :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:!!!!
I tried making Nigella Lawson's Fried Calamari which not only was horribly expensive (£7 on the calamari for 2 people ) but it didn't work. The cornflour/semolina mix came off the calamari in the oil.
I even went to the trouble of making up some Old Bay Spice.
I made these last night (luckily I hadn't seen your post or I might not have done). They came out beautifully.
Odd isn't it how some things work for some and others don't.
I would love to be able to make pancakes/dropped scones, but just can't.
(PS did anyone buy the bit where Nigella was on a bus? I don't think so.:D )"You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
I made Delia's "special" cottage pie the other night - it required cinnamon going into the mince - I thought.... well if Queen Delia says so  It was foul :mad:Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0

Did this make anyone else think instantly of the scene in Bridget Jones when she has her friends for dinner?! Just me, then? I'll get me coat. Lol.

Oh, and another thing, talking about nigella reminded me that I tried to make her fudge and it came out rock solid. I could've built an extention with it... welll, if I didn't live in a first floor flat ! Fair enough, it was the first time and I didn't use a thermometer, but still. Surely that wasn't how it was meant to be?!0 -
I keep trying hummous recipes but they always taste far too chickpeaish (yes...I know it's made of chickpeas but I love the stuff from the shops and wish I could make the same at home!). I even spent £40 on a proper home blender and it still always tastes horrible.
I have a recipe at home for beef and ale casserole. It's lush, PM if you'd like me to forward the details as I'm not at home for a few days and will forget to pass it on!Previous debt: £14K :embarasse Debt free: Sept '03MFW#42 Mortgage OP savings £4271.18/£12000 2019

Mashed potatoes - used too much milk when mashing and ended up with potato flavoured milky stuff. So I added some cornflour in the hope it might help and ended up with powdery potato flavoured milky stuff.
tasty....
Since then my cooking has improved immeasurably lol0 -

Me too with the homemade hoummus.
With regard to Nigella it seems to me that she is just really uncomfortable in front of the camera, she never looks at it and she fidgets a lot. I think it just comes across as being flirty.0 -
Oh and last night I made a 'Vegetable Mediteranian Casserole' from the 'You Are What You Eat' book. At one point it told you to boil....but the recipe didn't include any form of liquid! Was rubbish so I added a tin of chopped toms and curry powder to turn it into a veggie curryPrevious debt: £14K :embarasse Debt free: Sept '03
