I reckon all these people have home economists who make the stuff we actually see,,,,

St Delia lost my vote over the live aid cookbook. 'Which recipe did you get sent more than any other?' St, Delia replied 'Tuna casserole' - 'Which of them did you decide to put in the book?' - St. Delia 'Oh, I wasn't having a tuna recipe in my book'............. her book

No, but she put some pretty awful celeb recipes in there.

I made her very expensive and incredibly complicated mincemeat recipe - followed the instructions to the letter. In two weeks it had all gone mouldy and had to be chucked - cost me a fortune.

off to Mr. T's for a jar of the stuff - triff mince pies with that and a fraction of the price.

Another that doesn't like the clementine cake, and the cabbage galette that was on here a while ago did not go down well with the family either..

But the worst was when I was cooking for friends - a siple noodle dish, but I thought I'd follow a Jamie O recipe. I thought it looked heavy on the noodles, so I HALVED the amount (Seriously), and increased the amount of chicken - and it was still loads of noodles with a little bit of chicken...

    Oh well....

Anything with more than a dozen ingredients I find completely confusing! Why do so many recipes end up with an excessive amount of different flavours ? I prefer much more simple food

Banana muffins, kids have gone off them completely and speaking of going off the last ones I made were mouldy within 2 days, urgh!
One day I might be more organised...........

There is this one delicious recipe (ok, so maybe fails the requirements of recipes never to do again) which my aunt sent me. It is a flapjack, but sandwiched in the middle is like a chocolate brownie/dense cake mixture. It's great, but I always seem to forget the sugar, or the tin I use is too small, so it comes close to overflowing!

I made a coffee cake a few months ago, I'd never done it before. Anyway, it didn't involve any rising agents like baking powder (or if it did it was a tiny amount). When I got it out of the oven, it hadn't risen, and had seeped out of the bottom of the tin, where the spilt remains had turned into a pancake thing. It was because I hadn't whisked the eggs for long enough. Never again!

You just reminded me of Disaster Cake. For some reason, Disaster Cake had to be baked in a tin with a removable bottom. But the mixture was awfully runny, and so it leaked out of the tin and all over the oven!

Well :p to Delia -here's a fab tuna casserole recipe which really works (although I've forgotten the oven temp and cooking time:rolleyes: ) it's from Grub on a Grant by Cas Clarke. It isn't trendy or classy but it is yummy:D

    Varsity Pie

    1 tin of tuna, drained
    1 tin of sweetcorn, drained
1 tin of condensed soup -tomato/mushroom/chicken

Mix together, bung in a greased ovenproof dish and arrange triangles of toast on top and sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 30-40 mins (I think) at 180c (I think).

You can sub baked beans for the tuna for a veggie version.
  • I just made choc chip cookies from a recipe on the recipe board and they are truly awful. It said on the recipe to use a tablespoon of baking powder (which I thought was a lot) and that is all you can taste. Yuk Yuk need to put them in the bin I'm afraid as I feel ill after eating a part of one.
I remember years ago I was trying to be adventurous in the kitchen and put nutmeg in Macaroni cheese. It was like eating perfume :o .
My pals mum was cooking mince when she first got married and left it in the sink to rinse it. When she came back to start cooking it most of it had washed down the sink lol

I would love to hear anyone else's disasters xx

    Hi millionaire,

Sorry to hear about your disasters but you aren't alone. There's a fairly recent thread on everyone's recipe's not to be repeated, so I've added your thread to it to keep all the replies together.
