I *think* I am going to change to n0w tv. It seems like I will get all the channels I want to watch and broadband for a much cheaper price!

And just like that I have cancelled and will no longer be a $ky customer from early Feb. I have a bit of time to look at the deals in more detail and get something booked in.

A nice thing about the streaming platforms is you can start and stop monthly if you like, all done online. We tend to rotate between the main ones, only having one active at a time. By the time we come back around again there's lots of new things worth watching, and quite often there are returning customer discounts to be had too 🙂 With n*w we find just the entertainment package for a month then just the cinema pakage for a month offers plenty of content at any one time, and all the movies and box sets hang around long enough that you won't miss anything. We haven't bothered with the sports package, but I imagine it's cheaper than via s*y direct.1

I did the whole tracking of my voluntary spending for the last 3 months of 2023 - ouch, ouch, ouch it has made me revise everything - including my own definition of being frugal ... I always have to have a decent bank float as s/e and it seems I really like to spend that float - no wonder my savings rate has gone down.
I am now using ynab for this year after using it in Dec I saw it was invaluable in curtailing my spending as it is giving me a discipline my budget/spreadsheets dont - they have a 34 day free trial which is a good way to track spending just for the month even if you dont renew. Nick True Mapped out money has some great yt videos on it to watch first.
Or do what i did and write all voluntary non essential spending in your mfw diary as i couldnt lose it ...
well done on the goodbye to sky..DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Now February has hit, I am going to track my spending for the month to see where I am spending. I am going to do my best not to curtail it for the figures so it shows a realistic figure. I am not particularly frivolous and like to go out for a cup of tea which I don't really want to stop.I finished January with a nice amount left in my account. My $ky stops in a week's time so I might have even more at the end of this month although I am planning to go away for a couple of days around my birthday so maybe notMFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

I know Martin's rule is to never autorenew your insurances. I have checked my house quote today and for the umpteenth year in a row it is the cheapest quote by far, even if the price has gone up. I would never actually autorenew but every year I check I am amazed how much more expensive the other companies are.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

I found that with insurance for one of the cars this year. Amazing isn't it. I also struggle to get house insurance as I work from home so I've been letting that auto renew as shopping around has never revealed a policy cheaper when I say I run my own business.
I think the advice to check is good but yes, it is indeed possible one's own policy comes up trumpsMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Today is day 1 without $ky. I am glad I woke early as my smart speaker alarms wouldn't have gone off! The signal on my phone seems fine so I am experimenting with where to put it as a hotspot and will look after work to see if I can set my speakers up with it so I can have the radio on. I will also make sure the tv is plugged in correctly although I don't remember when it was last on, one of the reasons for getting rid.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200
