I think the OP is under a slight misapprehension. Bulbs don't blow because they are used. What kills them is vibration, which is present whether the lights are on or off. They are not consumed by use in the way that washer fluid or petrol is. To have a bulb blow a year after fitting, even if it has never been switched on, doesn't surprise me at all.


Remember the old Volvos with their headlights on all the time? If bulbs burned out with use, then these cars would have been famous for going through bulbs at three times the normal rate. They weren't.
