Ripped off on an MOT?
Options
Hi everyone, I have a question about a recent MOT I've had done. Last year it failed on the rear fog light, so i had the fog light replaced and then it passed.
The garage above who I usually go to have moved back abroad so i had no choice but to find another garage.
I have just found another garage and had an MOT. This time it has failed on about 5 different things - mainly lights - rear fog light.
Fog light again? i haven't used the fog lights in a year and am a very light car user - the car has done approx 3k in one year.
I worry that because i'm female, they've just stuck down a load of "little things" because they think i won't know what needs replacing?
Does it sound odd that i had new fog lights fitted last year and haven't used them and they need doing again?

Have you looked at the fog light to see if it works? If it works they are trying it on (or are useless), if it doesn't then they had no choice but to fail it.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

No lights on the dashboard come on. Since a brand new bulb was put in exactly one year ago and since i haven't used the fog lights at all this year - it sounds very suss to me. I could understand if i'd used them or even not had them changed in years but one year??0

Have they shown you the non functioning light?0

Have you checked the light is working? It may be an electrical fault rather than a dud bulb.0

They have said it COULD be the "wiring" as i did ask how it was possible this has happened? which means if it is the wiring, the bulb will fail each year until the wiring is looked at?
anything to do with wiring sounds quite expensive to get fixed. I haven't got the car back yet but will do all these checks again once back.

you should really check lightbulbs wipers etc before you get the MOT, then you wouldn't get fails on silly little things which cost a few quid to put right.0

I did check my lights a few days ago and they were all fine, I didn't check the fog lights because I never use them and figured a year on wouldn't have made any difference?0

These scams with lights happen frequently.....http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1042854
No matter how much you check before you take it in.0
