Oh yes you definitely had the p1keys round.
Maybe speak to trading standards as well as the plods?0 -
And to cap it all they weren't even your trees to cut....expect a phone call from council as well
I take it p1key & son disposed of the waste at a registered waste tip as well.......and not the nearest lay-by0 -
Putting the problems about ownership aside, I'm puzzled by the price breakdown. You were content to pay £650 to have the trees pruned where they overhung your property. Looking at the first picture, that doesn't seem to have been a particularly huge undertaking, being thinner side branches. Not a huge amount to cut and dispose of. Did you not think that to chop all the trees down to half height and dispose of enormous quantities of waste for only £150 extra was a little odd?
The tree surgeon you've spoken to says "£400-£500 tops". For what? The original trimming or the much larger task of cutting them all back to half height? Did he say anything about the legality of what's been done?0 -
This is hilarious amd a shame too. A real lesson in avoiding being so gullible. How can anyone think cutting back some small trees could be so expensive? 6 man hrs plus waste shouldn't cost any more than £500 total.0

Gullible.....answering a flyer with a mobile number.....a few Irish blokes turning up.......payment in cash........butcher all trees..........no stupid and gullible0 -
I would get a friend to call them up and pretend to be the owner of the trees.
I would ask for details of their insurance company, and business address due to criminal damage and destruction of protected trees on your land.
I would advise that you have asked the neighbor (ie you) to inform him the minute they return and to note the details of any company vehicles.0 -

Bit late I know but I don't come on here very often.
I always give a formal printed quote to the customer so that everyone is clear on the price and the work to be done. Avoid firms who use the phrase 'topping and lopping' these are cowboy terms and are not covered in BS3998 (British standards for Tree Work).
From the photos that does sound slightly overpriced but hard to say without seeing the job first hand. Usually 2 man teams + chipper and tipper are around £600 per day and 3 man teams + chipper and tipper around 750-800. However prices can vary greatly depending on targets/drop zones/risk factors how to deal with arisings etc.
Safest to go by word of mouth in the future and ask for a written quote, not an estimate, that way the price cannot be changed.0
