the 1007 is nicer looking than the micra, but as someone else has said the weight of the sliding doors and thier mechanisms really hurt your fuel economy.and if the gear change is anything like the 206 it would be a definate no the peugeot.
the micra is built by the french,so if your going down that road consider the citroen c2,c3,with the 1.4 turbo diesel engine (only £35 per year road tax).
or try the toyota aygo or yaris if you want real jap quality, but you will have to pay for this.
good luck....work permit granted!0 -
I think the Micra is ok but after driving a diesel one for a day as a loan car from my garage I think it is mmm... not my taste a bit noisy.
I did drive the other day a Fiat Panda 1.3 multijet and ... yes.. this was much better (ride quality mpg, etc'), just my opinion.
If you can strech to £5894 you can get a new out of the box Panda Diesel here:

the italians are not renowned for thier high bulid quality, buy a fiat and you get what you pay for.
cheap italian rubbish.it may look good but wont last....work permit granted!0 -
I've owned, bought and sold Fiats in the past, rust on modern Fiats is a myth born in the 1970's when the Italians bought cheap steel from Russia coupled to the actions of unions on militant employees which created poor build quality.
Modern Fiats have been galvanized since the late 80's, the Panda is an excellent little car and the diesel is shared with the Vauxhall Corsa.
Small Fiats are cheap, cheerful, economical little cars and the Panda diesel is one of the best in the range.
I suspect Goldspanner ate prawn cocktail, chicken in a basket followed by Black Forest Gateau for tea circa 1977 !0 -

I would also add the Panda to the list to consider. But my experience of Alfas and Fiat Puntos - from 1995 through to 2001 registration (I've owned 4 puntos in that time, worked on 2 others and know of 2 people with ones) have found niggling electrical faults a problem, the niggles are expensive to diagnose through the dealer network. One Punto cut the engine on full lock, another 3 the wipers juddered up and down. The later Grande Punto and Panda use CANBUS electrics, easier to diagnose but the electrical system is interlinked and works on electrical pulsed signal making repairs harder in the long term. But both the Nissan and the Peugeot also use a variation of this same system.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!
There are three types of people in the world, those who can add up and those who can't.0 -
I have just bought a car a month ago. I orginally wanted a new shape micra butsomeone at work said all she sees in micras are 'old biddys' and it put me off. Then I wanted a Yaris but for my budget I couldnt find one in the colour I wanted and was looking at lots of different ones (I needed an automatic), I love the look of the 1007 but I couldnt afford one and I dont think they did automatic. the Aygo does automatic and got fairly good write ups. I found a week before my test, a red, new shape Micra, reg in Jan 05 but on a 54 plate, done 13k and cost £4995. I fell in love with it and bought it. Passed my test the next week and dont regret buying it at all. Ive called her Biddy and she is my new best friend (bit sad). Ive done 1000 miles already and I love driving it. I agree that OCCASIONLY it feels a bit light on some roads at speed, but not all, it depends on the road. I have to drive for my job as a social worker and its great for that, although I pranged it this morning. I used the what car reviews on autotrader and parkers and honest john for advice. Nearly everyone says you cant go wrong with a yaris or a micra due to reliability. I think the micra is lovely myself.0
