'Unidentified network. No internet access.'

When I check my wifi connection, in addition to my supplier (currently Plusnet) I also see 'Unidentified network. No internet access.'
I'm puzzled. What does this mean? Am I being spied on or otherwise tracked?
FWIW we're due to switch to BT in a couple of days.
Grateful for your advice.

Thanks for your very quick replies!
But I think a neighbour would need our password, and I'm confident they wouldn't have it.0 -
Are you talking about the networks you can see when you click on the Networking icon, and/or look in Network and Sharing Center?
If you're connected by WiFi but also have an Ethernet (RJ45) port, and you haven't disabled it, then it's possible that this has become corrupted (Windows has forgotten that it's the LAN connection) and is reporting as Unidentified Network? Even if it's not the LAN port, this might help you track it down.0 -

Your computer is just listing all the wireless networks it can detect - yours and one it can't identify (the name is probably hidden). That is all. There is nothing nefarious going on. On my computer I can see loads of networks as there are lots of neighbours with wi-fi. Everyone can only log onto their own (unless the passwords have been shared/obtained).
I dont think this is the case here , I think the OP is referring to the networks that the computer says it is connected to when they hovver the mouse over the network icon in the system tray ..
Am i correct OP ?
You have one that says "sky36475 - connected , internet access" or whatever yours is called, and one that says "Unidentified network - No internet access" in itallics.
Am i correct ?
If this is the case, then the times i have seen this is when a user has something like virtuabox installed and it uses a virtual adapter for its internet access that will show up in this manner.
To fix this, in the search box, type services.msc and disable the "bonjour" service first.
If that doesnt solve it then go into device manager, uninstall your network card
Restart windows and the stock driver should install its-self.
If the issue is still there after that then there is a virtual adapter being created by something.
Let us know .
BTW , a neighbour with a bit of knowledge would NOT need your password to connect to your wifi.
But that wouldnt present in this way so is not the issue here.

^^^ this, HP stuff can be a s0d for creating virtual adapters due to it's various bloatware, probably called summat like "connection manager" or similar... or indeed any sort of vpn in use?......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
That wasn't what I meant.
I was saying this to reinforce the message to the OP.0
