  • My (West Midland) bus pass covers me for local buses anywhere in England. I have used it in Oxford, Bath, Newcastle and Durham. It also covers me for trains and trams within West Midlands County.

We have a static caravan in North Wales and I have been informed that because we pay Council Tax to Gwynedd County Council, that I could also apply for a bus pass there, which would entitle me to use it on local buses in Wales and some of the local railways. Not tried yet.

Someone mentioned local ferries. Does this include the ferries from the mainland to the Isle of Wight? (I hope not, I've just forked out £100 for a return ticket!).

No, I live near Pompey, and it does not cover the Gosport or Hayling Island ferry fares either

I am a 63 yr old male and although I reach my state pension age at 65 I have just found out that I am entitled to a FREE BUS PASS now!

The government now works this out from when the equivalent FEMALE state pension is due. Check the government/council/transport websites to find all the information.
It is dependent on the date you were born. (I was born in Feb 1953 and was entitled to this from 6th Jan 2016).
Please note no one tells you this and your council does not automatically contact you to let you know about it.

    GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for this, I've just checked and OH has been entitled to one since March.:T

The bus services on the Isle of Wight are excellent, although expensive without a bus pass. Where will you be staying?

Shanklin I think, we are swapping with some friends of ours for a week -their apartment for our static caravan. Haven't got the actual address yet.

  • You can use an English Bus Pass to travel into and out of Wales.

We went from Hereford to Llandrindod Wells and back using our English passes this summer. But you can't use an English pass to travel within Wales.

I assume the same goes for Scotland.

  • The England-issued bus pass is not usable in Scotland, I asked the bus driver about this when I was working there. No idea if a pass woukd enable you to travel from England to Scotland as I flew. (In a plane, not by flapping my wings)

Alas, your main home has to be in Wales so I have been refused. Worth a try though!

    I've found this http://www.blog.freebustravel.co.uk/bus-passes-all-you-wanted-to-know/local-variations-bus-passes/

Not sure how up to date the info is though it looks well maintained and full of useful info.
