It has to be at least 8 years old as they stopped producing the s type in 2008 so really any engine problems after this length of time is likely to be a maintenance or wear and tear issue rather than manufacturing defect.
I'm assuming the first 19 months it was owned for it ran well and has only recently developed the fault, surely if the hole had been there from the start there would have been problems before now.0 -

Engine wear yes. Even local driving car engines still last well beyond what ops has done! Otherwise don't you think taxis would be pretty damn expensive if they had to replace the engine every 6 months! Yet I've seen taxis with half a million miles on the original engine. Most at least a couple hundred thousand. I used to drive some of the poorest maintained taxis about and even those was doing 150k +0 -
I don't think I can give anymore info, if you read all my replies they are all there.
Jaguar s type, bought for £11000 with 24497 on the clock. Now has 39000 on the clock age 2007.
Petrol/Diesel, any previous issues, bought from main dealer ?
Given the mileage it's either a 3,000 miles per year shopping car or a well clocked, well used example.
You're likely to get more joy on one of the Jag forums as you look to be well out of timings for any consumer recourse0
