Windows 10 download question

Hi,
I have resisted getting Windows 10 as I am quite happy on Windows 7 but decided I would use the free download but just not install it, then at least I've got it if I have to use it
Yesterday, I backed everything up on an external hard drive and today I started the download, it was working quite a while then switched off and came back on again.
When it came back it seemed to be installing updates and it came up with a message that Windows 10 upgrade installation had failed, but there is another box that has come up on a separate page that says 'Meet your new browser' and on the page it says, 'Get set up in three easy steps'
I've looked in my downloads list and can't see anything that looks like a Windows 10 download.
What I want to know, has it tried to automatically install it and failed? If so, what is the message about getting set up about? or if it hasn't installed it, where will it have put it so that I can install it at a later date which is what I wanted to do?
TIA

Just to add as well, the little box on the line at the bottom still says - Get windows 10.
Does that mean I need to download it again?0 -
Check for a $WINDOWS._BT in your C:\drive
Look in that folder for a folder cashed "sources"
In there you should see a load of files, one will be 2gb or more in size ending in ".esd"
That's the encrypted win 10 install image.
You can grab a decrypt prism from the Microsoft website, burn it to a DVD and try the reinstall.Laters

They don't want to install now. But they are also under the impression that they can install the download after 10am tomorrow and it will activate.0

No, I can't see anything like that in my C:drive
Haven't got any DVDs anyway.
I've just started the download again0 -

Hi Nifty - are you saying it won't activate at a later date?0 -

Thanks Sol, but I don't know where to find it or how to do it.
I'll see what happens after this download has finished, its 52% at the moment.
If I have to stay on Win 7, won't be too unhappy. Would have quite liked the option of it though.0 -
I haven't got another pc Nifty. I'm trying to get it onto the lappy you helped me buy - Toshiba0
