I backed up my computer last night and then started the computer on the upgrade to W10 (currently on W7) before going out to work this morning.
Having come home, the upgrading status box says:
Thanks for any views.

Getting your upgrade ready
Installing Windows 10. Please wait.

I imagine it's been like that for quite a few hours (I've been home about 30 minutes now). Is it just a question of patience, or stopping it / reinstalling / something else?Percent complete: 99%
Thanks for any views.

Mine took hours too..I just left it too it and it installed eventually!
Mind you this might be a way of making you pay for W10 as the free upgrade offer ends soon;)0 -
If you've already backed up, then run a clean install using the .iso
Installation will take minutes, rather than hours.0 -

I backed up using the W7 Backup tool on the Control Panel; it took 3 DVDs.
Is there any way of checking whether the back up really did work before I permanently delete everything by a clean install?
And how would I run a clean install using the .iso, please?0 -

3 DVDs doesn't seem quite enough. I wouldn't depend on it. Best to back up to an external HDD.
I don't understand why so many have left it until the last minute and are now in a bit of a panic.
How much spaced is utilised on your C: drive?0 -
I've used about 220GB out of 296GB on the C drive and don't have an external HDD unfortunately.
If need be, I'll live with W7. The laptop is quite old and slow so W7 will probably see it out anyway.0 -

Mine is an old Acer netbook which was W7 and very slow. It works much better with W10 I have to say (though not much!).
I've resorted to using this as my less than 2 year old Lenovo Laptop is flecked :-( and apparently, doesn't support W10 anyway!0 -

You most certainly have not backed anything up. Your laptop is likely not old and slow, but full of crud and perhaps, low on RAM.
What brand name and model number?
My laptop is coming up to seven years old and is speedier than when I purchased it.0 -

No way that a two year old laptop doesn't support Windows 10. What model number and what is wrong with it?0 -

It's a Fujitsu Lifebook AH530, I've had it about 5 years. I suspect there's an awful lot of stuff on there that might not need to be
The Windows 'backing up' took about 4-5 hours late last night, so I do hope there's something there!
Each disc has 4 items listed: [name]-laptop (file folder); autorun set info; MediaID.bin; restore icon.
If I click the file folder, it gives me 3 options: to restore my files from this backup, restore files for all users of this computer, or manage space used by this backup.
Each DVD seems to have capacity of about 4.37GB.0
