Ok so many of you may have read previous posts by me - i need some help getting my head round this cleaning lark. My son starts school today (well nursery) and i want to make a rota i can do round him so that cleanign is doenadn i can enjoy time by myself and with him when hes around rahter than havign to clean all the time and always worrying the house is a mess.I know the chores that i need to do will be basic things but could anyone give me an idea of how often i should be doing them. To set the scene i am in a small two bedroomed flat that me, my bf, my son, our dog and our three turtles live in. My washing machine is a drier combi thing so i either wash or dry not both, i have one washing line and have commondeered next doors for the time being as hes a single bloke and doesnt use it, I have an airer too. My turtles are in my living room and the dog currently lives in the hallway (thats deemed his space). I seem to be washign lots and because im in a council flat if i dry the clothes indoors they tend ot smell damp etc because of a damp problem we have here, which should be sorted relatively soon. Can someone please help and suggest the best child and animal friendly things to use for cleaning????
Time to find me again

Hi hun,
it can get overwhelming at times  ...try the "flylady weekly thread". It's fab, gets you on track with daily jobs, and extra tasks. Very quickly you'll get on top of the housework, without spending all you time doing it. :j :j

Hi sammy,
You should be able to pick up some tips from these older threads:
HOUSEWORK ROUTINE
What's your daily routine ...
cleaning routine?

Would anyone know where I could get a housework rota template. sorry if this is in the wrong place but i am so desperate to get oneComp Wins 2011 : Cant wait to start listing everything:j:j:j0 -
Have you got Microsoft works? If you have there is 'Task Launcher' which has loads of templates with household chores, etc. Quite good from the looks of it. Might print one off and whip my oh into shape :rotfl:0

Just make one in excel, give me a shout if you want some help with it.
I made one when i had a mate lodge with me, never worked tho...Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -

I would probably make a list of each room, then list tasks which need to be completed in each room, first dailies, then every few days, then weeklies, then monthlies etc.
E.G.
Kitchen:
Dailies:
Washing up
Wipe down counters/cooker
Every few days:
Check fridge for out of date/mouldy food & food close to date - use this up!
Empty bins
Weeklies:
Check food levels and write shopping list and/or meal plan
Sort recycling
Less often:
Clean oven (Every few months?)
Clean windows
etc.
It can help to walk round the room in your head and look at different areas of it.
Try the Old Style board and their Flylady thread for more inspiration!I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -
www.flylady.com is good.
The best thing to do is write your jobs list (as above) then make a table with days of the week along the top and times down the side. Block out time for regular weekly things eg night class Monday, football Thursday, then mark in any chores that have to be on a fixed day, eg Take bins out Weds morning, empty kids laundry baskets Sat morning. Then slot the rest of the tasks in!
Flylady (as above) recommend just 60 mins general cleaning each week, either all on one day or 10 mins a day. You then do the other bits of cleaning on a one room per week basis in the form of mini tasks.0 -
I second the Flylady website. It's good inspiration to getting your chores in order (although I tend to follow mine VEEEEEEERY loosely!!)
Still it gave me the motivation to tackle my housework on a piecemeal basis rather than struggling to get it all done in one weekend (which with a newborn and a toddler is fairly difficult!!!). Tend to survive on doing the bare minimum rather than a detailed clean but it's better than nothing.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
