I was just going to suggest stocking up on butter and freezing it.. :D

I use 2 loaves and at least 6 pints of milk a DAY.. and I am really concerned about this.. we are struggling at the moment anyway to make ends meet due to the introduction of having to pay for school meals.. they are now costing me £55 a week!!! (they've been free for all primary school children for the last 2 years)

ALL the 2 for £2/3 for £3 offers seem to have been pulled now... just cost me an extra 70p for 6 litres of milk.. I wonder if stocking up on the powdered stuff is viable??... Hhhmm..

My homemade bread was costing 23p a loaf.. it is now 27p definitely cheaper than shop bought stuff.. it is also more filling it appears as the children 'need' to eat less of it.. and they seem to stay full longer before wanting snacks etc so yes I would say it works out cheaper and it's so much nicer!

Thankfully my BIL is a butcher and my sis works at the greengrocers so I do get a bit of discount at each of those!!

I just had a horrible thought whilst I was peeling the potatoes for dinner.

With the price of basics like bread, butter, milk going up in price so steeply, will this mean another hike in interest rates?

I believe these basics are in the 'shopping' basket used to calculate the retail price index. And I have something lurking in the back of my mind that says that the inflation rate is based on the RPI. If so, then the inflation rate will rise and interest rates will have to be hiked again.

    Someone say it's not so.

    Please?

if you are interested in buying money off coupons on ebay.. check that they are originals and not printed from the interent...

as firstly... a lot of supermarkets will not except internet printed coupons.. as they think they are photocopied..

and secondly... wht pay for them when you can print them yourself....:D

I think you are correct, plus of course the "credit crunch" on sub prime mortgages affecting the likes of Northen Rock I reckon if you have a variable rate loan / mortgage / credit card then your rate will increase sooner or later

Which after all what monetary policy is about, reduce borrowing and keep inflation low, as someone who remembers & paid 15% mortgage rates years ago It maybe that todays borrowers have the same shock coming as we had in the 1980s

Ive just got back from asda and 4 pints of milk is £1.34 - but the Flora Marg (1kg tub) has shot up to £2.15!! I bought the flora light 1kg as it was on offer for £1.50.

There were no 3 for £2 offers on the bread, now it seems that most loaves are around the £1 or £1.10 mark - apart from their own brand. I have bought the Asda thick today for 54p to give it a try!

Plenty of potatoes though and they were actually reduced to 74p (prev from 86p-98p) per 2.5Kg bag (british whites).

I noticed that my lidl have the 40% cheaper meat & poultry this week - it was already busy this morning!!
