Eventually they will get the message. Your parents cannot have it both ways. They must know you are in debt and in fact their insistence on repayment at the same time as the credit cards are causing you more stress. To then pressure you to spend when you cannot afford is not right. My DH also was very wary of going down the SC route, He was convinced we wouldn’t cope without CCs and actually said I had taken all his money away from him. By that he meant the thousands of available credit he had on cards. He saw it as his money.
He eventually came round when I made it quite clear we couldn’t cope and enough was enough.
Onto today for us it was the best decision we ever made.as ES said Stay strong

So stepchange have said that creditors won’t probably accept the family debt so if they our surplus will show as £575 if you then add the family debt £275 it will be £850 which is £300 less. To be honest it still feels like a huge amount and if I’m being honest I’m not sure if it’s worth it. The potential problems it can cause on our credit file etc. Plus if I get a job I assume it will increase. They did mention bankruptcy but I don’t feel happy with doing that.0

Reading this on the train , I think you have to do what is right for you . If you go with sc could you not save some money and pay towards family debt ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

it still is a huge monthly amount but the debt figure is high. also looks like it will take 10 years almost to clear it. I am not sure bankruptcy would work either as family debt won't be considered and you have enough surplus to cover credit cards.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I have just gone by the surplus they said and then added the family debt on top. We could save by not spending the amount they allocate for food etc. I’m glad we called but may wait and see if I can find a job to help. Hope you have a nice time away.0 -

I don’t think bankruptcy is the way forward for us either. They mentioned a dmp would take 14years.0 -
I think you are right to hold off and see if you can get a job in new year .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
