Is that 1 per day? They said we used 7!!! We triple checked the meter and took pictures.

No that is one unit for the whole month! But we don't use gas to heat the water. We use about 500 units of gas in a whole year (that's including last bad winter). I am slightly, but only slightly embarrassed to admit that the thermometer next to me is reading 24 degrees although it is normally 23.

    Hi,

I have been feeling very negative lately and I have realised why. I have given us a too big of an aim to clear and it's completely unrealistic. I did this aim to make things more manageable next year but in the meantime it's making now very stressful. I'm going to have a rethink and set myself a realistic aim and see what happens next year.

    Hi debtaghhh

Have had problems with my laptop so couldn't post for a while.

I totally get what your saying about unrealistic goals. I've been there and done that many times. On paper and in my head the figures work out fine. In reality they don't :(

Anyway smaller, more realistic goals will be easier to aim for and even if it takes a little longer at least you will hopefully avoid any stress over it.

I'm trying to do mine in £100 targets. Every £100 we pay off I'm ticking it off. It just gives me a small buzz seeing another one ticked off. Sad I know but whatever works for you

    Keep going

If it's getting to you, it is not worth it.

That sounds incredibly high although the only gas appliances we have are our combi boiler (quite new and efficient) and a gas fire which we haven't used since March. We used 8 cubic feet over the whole month last month. Is your cooker very inefficient or do you use the oven/hob a lot? We use our slow cooker and tend to microwave vegetables quite a lot. My daughter uses a steamer for veg which can do several different lots at the same time. Can you try and get your family to get more energy efficient? Turning lights off, jumper on instead of heating if not really cold?

So just under £90 for both. Are you in two? We are in five.

Forgive my ignorance. What do you mean? What do the numbers refer to?

Setting unrealistic targets are counter productive. You need a budget which works medium to long term for you.

Lol. Brain in gear now, sorry. Yes there are two of us although it is a four bed house so in terms of heating it, there should be no difference in number of people. Obviously showers etc use more with more people. Just looked at our bills June to September. W3 are on dual fuel fixed price tariff with PFP energy and the bill was around £40 in June but gradually creeping up as around £90 last month. We are at home a lot though as retired. As we often have our very young granddaughters round we have the heating on more now.

How about batch cooking or using a slow cooker to keep cooking costs lower?
