I want to stop drowning

Good idea about the food shopping and entertainment. It's too easy to put in on the card ( debit card). I'm still keeping to my budget that I said. I didn't cash the money but every time I spend on food I take it off budget. Currently left with £100 for two weeks for food.0

Hi,
Quick update I had an extra £67 so have divided it up. £34 paid off the cc.0 -
Morning,
I've just spent time working out I need to clear £13,709 in 12 months. This will mean I will then have enough money ( all being well) to cover all my monthly outgoings apart from savings towards car etc but I haven't accounted for overtime or two months no council tax which will have to go towards savings.
£13,709/12=£1142 a month this seems way too high ( as this is only off 3 credit cards) current minimums on these cc are only £200 so that would be quite an increase! All I can do is try and clear as much as possible and then look at it again in x amount of time . I currently have £4K in savings ( from money I mentioned gifted to me) I need to try and make this last as long as possible. These are also the 3 credit cards that are going to start to incur interest all within the next year so I really need these cleared!
I'm going to update my signature showing what I need to clear in the next year.0 -
Signature updated. Once I've paid some off I always get confused how do I log it , e.g. if I pay £30 off do I do this £30/£3900 does that mean I have paid £30 or £3870/£3900. Sorry for silly question0

I think most people put the current balance first if you are logging clearing target debts. So if you are targeting Nuba you put the current balance first and the original one first so as you say £3870/£3900.
If you are just aiming for paying off £5000 in a year then it is £30/£5000 for example. I think that is a much more woolly way of recording debt reduction though as it takes no account of interest or if people add to the debt.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Morning,
I've done really well with my grocery spends which I'm pleased about. One thing I don't understand is that apparently in one month we have used £90 worth of gas and electricity, that to me seems ridiculously high considering we obviously haven't had the heating on or tumble drier. They are trying to say that our monthly direct debit should be nearly £200! Our house is a 3 bed and not big. Does that seem high? We are on the lowest tariff with our provider.0 -
That does seem high. What's your usual monthly spend? Our direct debit is currently £55 a month, down from around £65 when Mr S was living here. Have you been using fans/tumble dryer more than usual recently?Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500

In our old house it got put up up £135 and we then owed them £300 when we moved but it was an older house and everything was awful. I've used the tumble drier twice in just over a month. Our new house is ridiculously hot so we have had one fan on most nights.0

Read the meter monthly. We were paying £115 monthly for gas and electric for 4 bed detached. They put it up to £185 in June as we had a £300 bill for underspend over the winter as we are both at home more now during the day due to retirement. Our bill last month was £38 so they now say we can put it down again as have made up the underspend in 2 months.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
