I want to stop drowning

Morning,
I am feeling very frugal today. I have set myself a £200 food budget until 20th August. I've just come back from friends and didn't spend as much as I anticipated. I've cancelled a few things I had planned, to save money. Where I make a saving e.g. if I spend less on food I'll put half towards extra debt payments and half towards savings.
I have already noticed things are creeping up, I received an email from PE , they always had a two course menu for £10.95 and now it's £11.95, muller corners were 10 for £3 and now 10 for £4. They have just lost my custom as I would only ever buy them as a treat when on offer but I can't afford it esp with the price increase.0 -

That's great, thank you!!0 -
Do you ever shop in Lidls? They do a cheap version of the Muller corner yogurts and I am sure they are a lot less than £4 or even £3. Loads of stuff seems a lot cheaper in there then Tesco and even Asda. Aldis or Lidls or Farmfoods seem to be the cheapest.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I mainly shop on Aldi's but popped into Morrison's the other day and saw the yoghurts. I don't really buy yoghurts on a regular basis.0

Morning,
I paid another £150 off the Nuba to get it under 4K. I've decided from now until next July whilst I have this lump sum any extra money will be divided in three :
50% debt
30% savings - for after the lump sum has gone
20% towards a holiday/extra good/ entertainment
This extra money will include any overtime, sales, gifted money etc0 -
Great idea re splitting the extra income.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Morning,
It's so lovely to wake up to a bit of breeze. We ended up with thunderstorms yesterday and the whole area losing power including mobiles.
I'm feeling a lot more positive with my plan for debt busting. My aim was always to get cc debt under 40 k by the new year and that's still my aim. I've said this before but then don't stick to it but I will from now on. I'm going to set myself short term goals rather than long term goals. Obviously my long term goal is to be debt free as quick as possible but that seems like a very difficult task. Where as saying I would like to clear just over 6k in five months feels more achievable especially with the amount we pay every month. It will mean over paying quite a bit but I want to do this. It would be such an achievement ( mad isn't it, 40k of cc debt as an achievement :rotfl: )
After that target I will think about quarterly targets.
Have a lovely day.0 -
It's great to see you feeling so much more positive. It's definitely good to have smaller goals, little steps make things feel so much more achievable.Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500

I think short term targets are the way to go for you. I would start with monthly targets for debt reduction so your usual payments plus a certain amount in overpayments and take it month by month. Looking too far ahead can be discouraging. Maybe also set challenges to stay within grocery spends budget or only spend so much on entertainment per week.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
