If I won enough - buy a house in the country outright with a bit of land, grow fruit and veg, have chickens and pack work in if I could afford it and then sort out a new career path without the worry of paying the mortgage. Would still be OS cos it's the best way. Would preserve more and more....Maybe leave the lentils behind in the OS cooking....! Keep the 'thrifty' cuts of meat which are my faves anyway money or nonefinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550

Well I've won on the last two lottery draws, and I've just eaten a home made meal for my tea - OK, so it's only £20, but I could have had a takeaway if I'd wanted one
Should I ever win a more significant amount then I'd like to make sure I'm financially secure before I do anything else. I'd rather live in a modest house OS for the rest of my life than live in a mansion for 10 years then run out of money. So, pretty much what I'm trying to achieve the long, saving up, way - oh, a lottery win short cut would be nice!
And that £20? It's in the house fund - it all helps!Refusing to Sit Down & Shut Up since 19740 -
I would buy a "vulgar in-your-face ostentatious display of wealth" house:D
It would be detached in the middle of a field, with a long drive up to it.
Hubby would LOVE that.
I would love the bling-tastic house.
3 holidays a year min (skiing at Xmas, Europe in Summer, exotic in Easter:D )
First class travel & 5 * hotels:D
How am I doing, have I spent it all yet:rotfl:0 -
A couple of years ago I read, or watched a TV programme about lottery winners.
Some had "spent, spent spent" and their neighbours had turned against them, saying the the lottery winners were just showing off etc.
Others had not really spent much of their winnings and their neighbours had turned against them saying they didn't deserve it because they hadn't used it. I think one poor woman actually got punched in the face while collecting her kids from school, by a woman who said she didn't deserve to have the money as she hadn't spent it.
It appears that if you have a big win then moving house is a good idea!0 -
I would build 3 Bungalows ( 1 for us and one each for the kids) with enough land to grow veggies on, completely energy efficient with a wood burning stove, solar panels and a wind turbine , I would also buy a new car and have a decent holiday which we haven't had for 10 years, then I would put the rest in an offshore savings account and live off the interest.
Oh what it is to dream!:DBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

The bizarre thing is, I have strangely conditioned myself during the last 2 years (since discovering MSE) into no longer enjoying parting with my money - my husband is still reeling in shock as I have always loved shopping!!
I can't bear to spend money now unless it is a) essential (such as food) and b) a bargain. I think I would be a miser and sit and count it rather than spend it!0 -
I would buy a huge old house on or very near a secluded beach in Dorset or Cornwall or somewhere like that, and turn it into a lovely OS style B&B with lovely hm food and lots of old fashioned board games and stuff for guests to play. I would also go on on holiday to Cape Cod every summer and New York every winter - in fact I might even buy a small appartment in NYC to use in the winter when my B&B was closed. I'd sail to the States and back on the Queen Victoria because I don't like flying.Jane

I would pay off the mortgage and buy my husband the kind of hi-fi he dreamed about before he went to University, got married and had a family0

if i won i would pay off morgage (i quite like my little semi and the area where we live so i don't think i would move although my oh dissagrees and says we would have to have the big house ect) i would pay off all debts and maybe start own bussiness as i don't think that i could never work again and i would have lots of babies. so i figure i only need about 1 million to keep me happy!cc & o/d debts 4/2/11 - 12209.

I would buy our house that we live in now outright and then gift to my parents, then we would move to bigger family home. Maybe do a barn conversion and whilst doing that rent a fantastic pad for a year. I would want to ensure my childrens futures and invest on their behalf now, maybe buy up some property.
I would endulge myself in hobbies that are a little out of my reach at the moment, like learn to paraglide and travel the World with that as one of the main activities. Get myself a Maseratti and a Range Rover or Q7, the other half could have a nice "family" car, a Merc or something. I could carry on, some nice gadgets and boys toys.0
