Ohhh if only.....
as I dont like gambling, I doubt it would ever happen but I do dream that......
either have a scandinavian style house built with large windows overlooking my largish garden (not too big, enough so I can manage it) with sliding walls to change room layout and sizes, with 3/4 large beds with ensuites and a utility room - bliss OR an underground house. Both would be energy efficient and as green as possible. I would have my own car and a new motorbike and OH would get the same. As I have no family only OH, I would probably help out a few friends.
I would probably still do all my own baking/cooking, gardening, cleaning etc, still live OS even washing and reusing placci bags.
For holidays, get a nice campervan and get lost as often as I can.
After typing this, I realised that I had everything really, good health.

Property is still fairly reasonably priced where we live so I'd probably spend £400k-£500k on a house with a MASSIVE kitchen including walk in pantry, and a nice big garage so OH could have a workshop for fixing up vintage cars. I'd hire a cleaner/housekeeper who would also do all the laundry. I'd buy a Nissan 370Z, which I could actually afford to fill with petrol whenever I liked. We would start trying for a baby immediately (right now there are various things we need to do first, like buy a house and make sure I've been in my job long enough to be made permanent and be entitled to the company's maternity pay).
I would also like to buy a house in Spain somewhere on the Southern coast. Or perhaps in the Canary Islands (somewhere well away from the tourists, mind).
After giving a few quid to both sets of parents, the rest would go straight into offshore bonds, from which we would take an income and hopefully never have to worry about money again.
HOWEVER... I would probably continue to work, at least part time, because I enjoy my job and I love my workmates and would go mad if I didn't have actual human company every day. This may change after babies arrived though, at least till they were all at school
I would also continue to cook everything from scratch, shop in Lidl (in conjunction with Waitrose!), grow veggies and look for bargains.
I suspect my husband would want to quit work, and given that he would need a hobby to fill up his time and he is very good at fixing cars, he could take my current 11 year old car which has done over 120,000 miles, and to which I am unhealthily attached, and completely restore it so it was like new. Only better.0 -
Oh what a lovely thought
We would buy a bigger house and I would go horse and dog shopping, a lot would go to various charities that we support and friends and family would be remembered.
Once the initial spending had subsided I would probably not overly change my ways. I would worry less about things like food and heating bills however I would still be sensible with my money day to day, it is built in to me to look for a good deal and not to waste money. It would be lovely to have the time to enjoy baking and crafting without other things getting in the way.
Charity work would be something I would love to have the time to do again.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
A detached house in a nice area would have to be top of the list. The OH would retire as he is close anyway, and my DD's would never have to work minimum wage jobs with 'jobsworth' managers to supplement college anymore.0

Daft as it seems I don't think it would make a lot of differance to me .I like the house I'm in and don't need a bigger one I have a car I like .most of the places I have ever wanted to visit I have been to and I can't think of anywhere I would want to go(not too keen on too much hot weather )I'd probably give most of it to my DDs and grandchildren and I have enough to live on so my wants are very few .I can't honestly think of anything I really want. I am quite happy with what I have0

I would also like to move somewhere more rural, preferable with a bit of land to keep chickens and to keep the kids running around. Maybe a 4 or 5 bed detatched house. I wouldn't not work, my line of work is really rewarding but I'd consider doing something similar on a voluntary basis once ds2 is at school. If I had that amount of money, I'd like a brand new car each for me and OH, as we've been having a lot of car trouble recently.
I wouldn't tell anyone that we'd won the lottery but I would find a way of giving friends and family some money to help them out.
I'd have one family holiday together, probably only in the UK but somewhere we haven't been before.
Other than the above, the rest would go into various saving accounts and kept for our future. I'd still shop at B&M, poundland, aldi and approved foods. I can think of nothing worse than winning a large amount of money and squandering it on rubbish.0 -
I would probably stick to same shops, but get a bit (lot) more, and get a taxi home!
In a council flat, I would ask about buying the whole block as an investment / secure base..
..then move to a nice house in Hove, actually! With A pool, 2.3 Ferarri's, the usual..
and if any left, pay off the gas bill!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
ooh what a lovely dream - I'd buy a big house in East Devon, with:
a swimming pool
large study/library
darts room!
BIG utility room with room to keep the ironing board up all the time without it feeling squashed
big walk in pantry
a gorgeous view
a large but not too sculpted garden with plenty of trees and nooks and crannies
big kitchen/diner
flagstone/quarry tiled/wood floors
inglenooks and wood burners
Belfast sink
Range style cooker, colour green, probably wouldn't have a proper range.
A stream running through the garden (this is essential:D)
I don't want muchAnd I would become a lot MORE old style, because I'd have a veggie patch and fruit trees, and a kitchen with room for things like slow cookers and breadmakers:D
For now though, I'll just have to stick to my wee second floor HA flat and be grateful for it:)0 -
I'd buy a little house with a big garden. Some fruit trees, and a bogracs. A car that's not too thirsty for petrol but has nice suspension. More bookshelves, and more books to fill them. A big sauerkraut crock. A comfy sofa. What more could anyone want?
I don't gamble, but I can dream.

Hmmmm..
normal stuff, like helping family and close friends ofcourse.
Then I'd buy a 'farm'.
a house with a huge kitchen, with a walk in pantry and all the trimmings..
Fireplaces, aga, woodburning stoves... the lot..
Some animals, goats, maybe a cow, chickens, a pig..
I'd go way towards self sufficiency.. with a big veggie garden and all. Put up solar panels and a wind turbine..
I would need help with all the work but I would love to make it educational/job creating.. Help youngsters get jobexperience.. teach basic cooking skills... teach young people basic life skills..
That would be lovely.
I'd be much more OS in some ways I think. And I would be much more into spreading the word.
And for fun?
My husband would want a big hobby/work shed where he can build and race his r/c model cars...
and we'd probably have a few more husky dogs and take them sledding properly.
I can just about see me and DH sitting on the porch, glass of wine (or whiskey) in hand overlooking the veggie garden...0
