    Alice,

I could write an essay about how such benefits could and i'm darn sure will improve my life that's for certain

What's left on my council tax will be paid off later today thanks to a friend who amongst others help me get through my life

Another family friend has got me an estimate for my leaking roof, so no more worry about rain dripping down a bedroom wall and across the ceiling then going mouldy

I can get my only form of bathing fixed, my electric shower broke, in fact i'd rather prefer a bath with a little hoist, again, no idea of cost, but if i can that's another thing i'd like to aim for

The house was built in concrete (no-fines) has no cavity walls, so the house is nice and hot in the summer pretty naturally, but ice cold come autumn and winter and generally into spring too as it's on a hill that gets a fierce north wind

Some of my neighbours have had external insulation done, it's a foam insulating material then it is coated with i think a rendering ? but anywas, i'm hoping i could find out the cost and start saving for that, hoping it would cut my skyhigh fuel bills

And the food as-in eat or heat, well, really and truly i think you have to of lived through this personally to really comprehend what goes through you mind, it really puts you on a very low ebb

So yes Alice, my days of missing meals seem to be over, and also worrying about paying my quarterly gas/elec bills, that alone just means so much to me it's incredible to think, at this very moment in time i can go wash my hands without having to think about the meter spinning

I hear what you're saying about the savings threshold

I have so much to get priced up as such (as above) but if my benefit does get near to the limit i will notify the benefits/council for two simple reasons

1 : I have no safety net besides benefits, it's the sad truth for me, but that's the way my health/life is now

2 : If you really don't have any other option and have to survive (i use that word as i really did have to survive) on benefits, if you cheat you are pretty much taking away from others who are are dire straights, and that's shameful in my eyes

After reading what i'm likely to recieve, i do feel it looks too much for one person to have from benefits, see, my siblings and myself were raised to work from an early age, dad had his own business, we all helped and got money for helping, mom was what you now term a stay at home housewife, i left home with many thousands of pounds saved and even brought my own home :)

Better days those many many years ago, i could of never foreseen how my life would change from one end of the spectrum to the other

Sorry to waffle on, think i just needed to vent somewhat

    Thankyou

It might be worth checking with your local council / utility supplier if you can get any help with making the house more energy efficient. There were some schemes to help with this - but I'm not sure if they are still running:
    http://www.affordablewarmthgrants.co.uk/heating-grants/info-central-heating-grants

Now you are in the Income Based - ESa Support Group you should be able to be eligible for the warm home discount (£140 off your electricity bill). I think it will restart for 16/17.
    https://www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme/what-youll-get

Re savings and saving up for work on the house. Is there a credit union near you?
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/credit-unions
    http://www.findyourcreditunion.co.uk/home

I also wonder if there is a local group - perhaps related to your illness / disability; such as The Stroke Association, MS society, MIND, NAS, etc i.e https://www.stroke.org.uk/finding-support

Now that PIP will enable you to afford transport / taxi etc - are their any social clubs / lunch clubs you would want to join?
    e.g. http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/site/scripts/home_info.php?homepageID=148&directoryCategoryID=647&offset=20&refineGroup=keywords&refineBy=activities%20and%20socialising

    Hello Alice,

You truly are a kind person

Taking time out and posting on this forum for the help of others and myself

My neighbour is going to chat to the guys doing a house insulation a few streets up, he's going to come back hopefully with a rough idea on the pricing and maybe they have leaflets or alike ? i just said get as much information as he could lol

I'm sure i have tried the council previously for insulation, i'd have to check through all paperwork i save to be certain though

I am with EON, so no idea about a discount but will checkup on this

I'm years out of touch with even the local town but years ago there was a credit union started up in the nearest city, again, something for me or friends to check upon

MIND i do have contact with

As for taxi/buses/rail, i'm afraid the last time i was able to use public transport was 1995, also i honestly hardly manage to go out, due to severe pain, two surgeons have operated at lessoning my pain, they did explain at best the pain would lesson slightly, but no way could they cure the pain. it's such a rare problem in a way, from aged 17/18 when it started, it took until i was 34 and two countries and i daren't try to remember how many so called specialists to give me the actual name of the condition

I will say this, my new gp, she actually read up in detail about the condition, she amongst many previous gp's had never heard of it or even knew howto check for it so i went on for years with real tearful pain, in the end i was drinking 2 bottles of red wine as soon as i got in from work, purely to knock myself out and get some pain relief :(

Then when i knew i couldn't carry on doing my job, which i started as a temp, then worked as i always did doing my best and being eager and energetic, i was given a full time job

The worst pain besides my 'normal' pain was having to hand my notice in, purely and simply over health, this brought me to the edge, it's the most horrid thing i've ever had to do, it tore me apart, it has only been recently i've been able to get rid of my work uniforms and all my old payslips, i would often look at those payslips in disbelief, seeing how much money i was on and all the things i had took for granted so to speak

Having to give up my job which i loved and also did every single hour of overtime that was going saturdays and sundays included, sent me on a mental health spiral downwards fast, i had money in the bank, i got all my avc and pension money back, as i was paying the max avc allowence it came to a decent amount plus my pension money (i think now you don't get pension monies back if you finish a job, but then you did), i had paid the maximum in as i was looking to the future, as it turned out i didn't have much of a future in a way

So while i got more depressed if it was even possible and the pain got worse also something happened to me that the police couldn't make a prosecution of, so after 3yrs or so i sought help for my pain and mental health issues, i also knew wine as a pain medication wasn't the way to go, this set me on the road to where i was on benefit, then after years of being settled and finally getting medications that somewhat help some of my problems, here i am posting this

Life sure can throw some tough things at you as i found out, and then there's always people worse off than yourself

Thankyou again Alice for the time helping me

I will check the links, thankyou

    Good morning Defiance,

I just wanted to add that if you have a look on our website (I'm sorry I can't post links :o) type in warm home discount.

It'll then show you all the information that you need and you can also register your interest.

When it opens you can apply online as well.

Have a good look round the website as there's some really good information and energy saving tips that I think would help.

Hope this helps you a little.

    Helena:)

    Hello All,

Had two letters today regarding Income Support and SDP arrive a short time ago

The IS states i will get £121.10 pw

The SDP form i must admit was the easiest ever form i've ever seen from the DWP

Not many ticks in boxes and my signature and it was done

The SDP return envelope is ready to be posted

Great news for me, the roofer/builder is fixing my roof any day now, and as a bonus, for not much more he's going to replace the damp warped ceiling boards and plaster over the new ones :)

And i am awaiting a price for external insulation

Unless i get a mega form to fill in for ESA i'm hoping i'm all done form-wise

    Thankyou All

I really feel humbled and am truly greatful for you taking time out to help ones less capable like myself

    :)

    Hello E.ON,

My neighbour did check for me, seems i've missed this years signup or whatever he termed it, though at the earliest chance i'll be on the discount

I am now costing up the most energy efficient fridge freezer up and also a new gas cooker

Both of my ones are err well very old and i'd guess nowhere near as efficient as ones this day and age

I never thought looking for white goods could be so enjoyable

Thankyou for your reply it's much appreciated :)

    Have a Good Day
