Help me find a cheap laptop or base unit with this spec?

whilst the actual pc hardware spec listed maybe irrelevant in this day and age other factors may come into account, even now whilst laptops are comparable in spec they are not really suitable for doing working days on, aside from heat issues the actual ergonomics of doing 4hrs or more may lead to rsi from overuse of an unsuitable keyboard etc.
Also consider reliability if you come to start your shift and the machine breaks, it will be a lot cheaper/practical to get a standard desktop pc up and running if you plan for it.
Maybe consider buying a couple of dell returns base units.
Ps better ask if they do actually require a modem as listed in the specs, rare but not unconceivable
I have got an external monitor and keyboard to use with the laptop as the spec required a bigger monitor than the screen of the laptop.
I do agree regards overheating issues, ideally I would like to wait until my first months pay is in - give me a chance to get a feel for the job and accrue a little money to spend on the new base unit to go with the monitor/mouse/keyboard I already have.0 -
Are you employed or self employed/contracted?
I'm an employed home worker and my laptop etc have all been provided by the company. As have all the relevant risk assessments.
It seems unusual to be expecting you to fork out for yourself otherwise, especially if they're telling you what you need.
I will be employed by the company directly on a permanent basis.
I agree it is probably unusual (though I have no experience of this type of working from home) but it's a needs must thing - it will fit with my life/work issues

Slightly off topic, but get a copy of their home working policy just to check where you stand with regards to home working allowance and that side of things. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

The £40 base unit, if still available at that time, is more than adequate. Indeed you'll be happy to know that the processor is a Intel Core2 Duo E7400 running @ 2.80GHz
Benchmark of 1780.0
