I believe the main fault lies with the bank. Once you changed debit cards for a more recent one, any payments that were still set up to be taken on the old card should automatically have been cancelled, along with your old debit card.

What's your source for thinking this? I'd say it's completely wrong: the debit card is simply an access method to your current account, and if that hasn't changed then any CPA set up will still be valid.

Correct - it's not uncommon for continuous payment authorities to remain in force when a card is replaced, as the CPA is aligned with the account not the card.

But bank should cancel the CPA (or block the merchant) once you ask them to. I had to do this to get out of Gourmet Society...

Correct - but even now you'll still likely have to get past the desk jockey who answers the phone at the bank ... first line customer services often don't know that bank must cancel a CPA on request, because their script doesn't tell them this.

I don't think OP said when the card expired, just that it hadn't been used for a few years, but if the bank allowed a CPA to be set up using expired card details, imo that is wrong and quite a serious security flaw.

Different when an existing CPA carries over - thats in order to serve a benefit to the consumer so they don't find themselves suddenly inundated with failed payment fees or having insurance policies etc cancelled. But if the card actually expired a few years ago, imo the bank shouldnt have accepted it and its worth perhaps enquiring whether the ombudsman can deal with the complaint (cant see any reason they wouldnt tbh).
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

I think more information is required from the OP here. It doesn't sound as if the card had expired at all, just that it was an old debit card which hadn't been used for some time.

We are wading through a sea of mis-information here. Where, for example, did a connection to Amazon come into this? Amazon are not connected with Netflix and even offer their own streaming service in direct competition.

In the end, it'll be down to the Bank's fraud department to sort the wheat from the chaff here. In the meantime we can only speculate.

If after trying all this Netflix is not helping, state your problem with them in review and feedback webs. The companies' costumer services usually check them and help people so they minimize the effect of bad reviews, even when the complains are not fair (I know this is not the case)

I think it's already been established that Netflix is not at fault here. Trying to "shame" them on social media or writing a negative "review" would therefore be a futile (not to say crass and vexatious) exercise.

I think you got it wrong. I didn't mean writing a false review in any case. I clearly said state your problem with them: they wrongly charged you and they refuse to refund or help you finding who has taken your money. Companies have to check whether they are charging the legitimate card owner.

I don't agree Netflix is not at fault here. They are charging a person for a service he/she didn't sign up for. Now that they know it, I think they should check if it's a legitimate claim and offer a refund.
I am not saying Netflix is the only responsible. Of course the bank is also responsible for the fraud protection and the cashback in a fraud case like this.

I think going public would help your case. ALWAYS USING TRUE FACTS, and without any kind of exaggeration, just saying what happened. Probably customer services department will speed things up.

No. It's the customer's card that has apparently been used fraudulently and, as such, Netflix have no liability.
