Hi everyone! Loving the jokes!!!! No explanation as yet? Builder came round and scratched his head, as there are no pipes in the tapping wall. I actually googled death watch beetle, just to see! No they only do about six to eight taps. I must say I am relieved it is not that. So, the taps are 20-40 stop, then the same. It is a tap, not a knock, and they are very rapid. This always happens in the early hours. I am going to sleep in there tonight, although, I did sleep through the smoke alarm one night. My family had to physically shake me, to wake me. Perhaps hubby would be better than me.
I will keep you posted.

Is it an internal or external wall? do you live in a terrace/semi?
Could it be something the neighbours are doing? maybe they have a alarm that makes a tapping sound or something similar?
EDIT: just a thought, does next door have a hamster? they make alot of noise in the night.0 -
I once had a clock that was extremely noisy as the hand struggled to go from 6 around to 12.. Slow loud ticking every 30 minutes ,
Scariest noise here? The DVD player turned on at 6 am one morning and the root menu of Star Wars played .. Imaging waking suddenly to the Emperors entrance music??
Ps I live on my own !!today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

My pipes tick too. But could it be bats in the loft? Their echo location thing can sound like intermittent clicks or taps to us and as they are nocturnal ot would be at night. Be careful tho before you try to get rid of them. Most bats ate protected. Xx

They'd be able to see whether it's likely you have a summer roost.
Other than that, a very slowly dripping tap? Squirrels? The cat scratching itself? A bit of rose bush/honeysuckle/branch knocking against the wall?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
iammumtoone It is an internal wall. It is a very large detached property, divided into two flats. Below, the tapping wall is our large entrance hall. So not the neighbors, they sleep below me, I can hear them snoring. They don't have a hamster, but they do have a dog, that sleeps in their bedroom! It obviously doesn't mind the snoring.
cornishchick Are you with the garden fence? No, not a clock, none in his room. It is a large bedroom, and the said noise is inside just one wall. Bless, What a fright with Star Wars. Tip: Get a hunky man, no woman should be alone!
Jojo the Tightfisted There are squirrels everywhere in Bournemouth. However, I don't think they could find their way into an internal wall. They are grey squirrels, and I believe they go back up to their trees at night, other wise they would be prey for the foxes and owls. Oh, there are no plants or shrubs on this side of the house.
Keep your thinking caps on.

Tipsntreats, DS2 works in an industrial unit down in Poole and they spend a fair bit of time chasing & evicting squirrels, from places you wouldn't imagine a squirrel could possibly get into, never mind want to be in! It's not even as if there's anything for them to eat; they do electrical engineering, not anything food-related. The dratted things seem to see it as some kind of game or challenge now, like Tom & Jerry with fluffy tails. There's no apparent way for them to get in, but get in they do, then tie the staff up playing catch-and-evict-the-squirrel for ages... no squirrels have been harmed, so far, but DS2 got a nasty bite early on in the game. They wear gloves now...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Hi again thriftwizard, I see you post on my other threads. I am going to inspect our large loft, that may well show if it is squirrels. I will say that they are regular visitors around here as we are so close to woodland walk. I know in the USA that raccoons live in walls.
I took a spare mattress and slept in my sons room last night. Nothing happened last night!!! My son says that it is not every night???? The squirrel suggestion does seem plausible.I will keep you all posted.
