My pipes tick too. But could it be bats in the loft? Their echo location thing can sound like intermittent clicks or taps to us and as they are nocturnal ot would be at night. I'm pretty sure that this is the sound of a pipe expanding and contracting again with changes in the temperature of the water running though them. I have a self defrosting fridge freezer in the kitchen and even though I am completely deaf in one ear, the sound of the clicking at night has been waking me up just recently. The valves on the central heating boiler also click because we never turn the boiler off, just zero the thermostat in the hall. Does it only happen in the summer? Our house makes noises as night but only when it's warm or sunny. I think it's the house contracting as it cools in the night after having the sun on it all day.0
