Hi Nifty
Unfortunately after five hours with this damn thing,I think I will pack it up and send it back to Argos. I downloaded the Win 8.1 image and then went to burn it, the windows burn program kept asking for a disc, even though there was one in it, I downloaded Image burn because geeks who know say this will work, I get error message Failed to write ISO image, Error: Hardware Error 14848
I went onto the marvelous Microsoft fix it site to download a fix for the DVD/cd drive and guess what, they don't support Windows 10.
I will get a 8gb USB and try that before it goes out the window, in total today i have spent ten hours trying to sort this and so far, haven't moved forward an inch, bring back the f@*7kin= pigeons, far more reliable and just need a handful of corn !!
Thanks anyway for trying to help0 -

I don't know whats happening with the Windows 10 browser, not impressed, I posted a reply to you earlier which clearly hasn't been posted ?
I have finally got the Dell updated to Windows 10 and am currently downloading the program image burner and the Windows 8 download, I havent burnt an image yet, but will give it a go. I obviously need to go into the HP Bios settings to change the machine to UEFI default, hopefully that will not be too difficult, do I need to remove the SSD sata etc or can I leave this connected up, it boots to the 1TB drive it cam in, as obviously the SSD doesn't boot, and when I try to boot, do I need to remove the sata and power from the usual HP drive and just leave the SSD drive connected and change the boot order to boot from the USB or CD depending what the image is burnt too ? sorry if these sounds a bit simple, but its a new world for me. Thanks
HC
Take the connections off the HP HDD and connect them to the new SSD. Once you've created the bootable USB Flash drive, connect it to the PC and restart the machine, choosing to boot from the USB Flash drive.0 -

You are over complicating the thing. It can't be possible that both of the optical dives on the DELL and HP are non functional0 -

Hi Nifty
I loaded the windows 8 Image onto a USB using Rufus, it seemed fine and was 4222.574kb, I started the HP and then put in the USB, and then switched it off.
I took the existing power and SATA from the HP hard drive out and put in the SSD drive sata and power, I then rebooted and pressed keys, the message came up, no operating system found, the USB just will not boot up ?
I checked again on the BIOS settings that the boot order was USB hard drive, and initially set everything back to the factory default before changing the boot order.
Rufus showed everything as Ok and it took a while to burn, I have copied the RUFUS log, any other ideas of what I am clearly doing wrong ? I have also tried setting the BIOS to USB floppydisc/cd but still will not boot from the Cruiser USB stick

Nifty, when I plug the USB into the Dell, autoplay doesn't run, however in my windows or this pc as it is in windows 10, yes it allocates a drive letter O
I have checked in the devices folder and autoplay is switched on, yet doesn't ?0 -

What folders can you see when you navigate to the drive letter in File Explorer?
If you are sure that the media has been created correctly, look here0 -

When I navigate to the usb drive, I can see all the folders, regards the two options in the link, the first is out as you cannot get into Windows 10, and the 2nd doesn't show any boot from devices or give a menu like in the link, this option to boot from is only shown in the BIOS set up and once you set to boot from USB and reboot, the same message no operating system installed, unable to boot appears and back to square 1.0 -

Turn off Secure Boot and enable Legacy support in the BIOS.

I thought I had cracked it, I was looking at various postings and saw the reference to Secure Boot so went into that and disabled it, I then changed the bIOS to boot from CD/DVD and rebooted using the Windows 7 64 bit installation disc I had for the Dell, the windows files loaded, but then hung on Starting Windows screen, this has been on for around 15 minutes now, so looks like that failed, so I will change the bios again to Boot from USB hard drive, ensure the Secure Boot is disabled and enable Legacy support and then reload the USB stick with everything else removed ?0
