Why not link your printer to your laptop as well as your PC?

You seem to be determined to make things as difficult as possible.

Maybe internet banking is not for you

OP already seemed to have got confused about accessing a Tesco account from multiple devices - this isn't actually prevented at all but there is an extra security check the first time the account is accessed from a device that hasn't been used before (https://yourcommunity.tescobank.com/t5/Online-Banking/How-do-I-ask-you-to-recognise-my-device/ta-p/124), although OP's reluctance to use the phone number registered with Tesco obviously wouldn't help here. This security layer is unpopular with many but prevents account hijacking being conducted via online banking, hence this one being done by phone.

Didn't realize anyone thought I was unbelievable - assumed like me you are in disbelief of Tesco's poor security. Yes 'phone calls are recorded so hopefully they will be able to tell the fraudulent call wasn't me. Only ever logged in to Tesco online (or tried to) using brand new last year Windows 8 laptop with full anti-virus protection but need to be able to use on the old XP one too. I've had online banking for years and years with Santander and do everything online. Never had any need to resort to the archaic medium of telephone since giving them up for good for email in 2001. Tesco Current Account is advertized as an online account with online customer support which I find it does not have. I avoid like the plaque anything financial or security wise which is telephone based. I'm sad to have been so spectacularly proved wrong. In this instance, I had to post a cheque to Tesco Bank because I don't do bank transfers - I think they are insecure. They have no branch to visit and no facility to deposit anywhere so I had no choice. I've never had to post anything to a bank or write letters to them in over 15 years until Tesco. I put my savings into the account to leave in and accumulate interest. I saw them in there safely when first deposited and have not been able to get logged in online since - letters were good enough to keep pushing for this as I had no reason to think my money wasn't still safe in the account and I didn't want to access it, I just needed to print off a statement of interest for my self-employed accounts and when I finally got a brief chance to log in last Friday that is when I discovered the fraud had occured soon after I was last able to log in (late Jan/early Feb). I am pursuing the matter with the police & ombudsman service actively.

I hope that answers all the dissenters

I had a nightmare time recently with Post Office Money over a faulty current account run by Bank of Ireland, this included for a long time being unable to access my money. The simplest of things took weeks to "sort". Some investigations were made as to the faults, I'd be assured "your account will be fixed in 48 hours", weeks later, nothing. They had to re-issue the re-issued online banking PIN etc because of unspecified faults. I was told their tech team had advised "it's simply not possible to get those errors you've described". I sent screenshots in showing said impossible errors.

Ultimately no resolution was offered beyond telling me to ring customer services and state XYZ though they did admit the faults originated from their mistakes upon account opening.

They then breached the national standard 8 week complaint deadline, then breached the internal target time to get me my settlement arranged with the help of Ombudsman.

So I for one have no reason to doubt OP because sadly I've run into that level of incompetence myself in the banking sector.

So sorry to hear that KxMx - I was about to say I hope no-one else has an incident like mine that you would think couldn't possibly happen until it does. I hope you're free of your hassle without losing money!

    Thank you so much Ampersand,
I really appreciate all your constructive help. I'll certainly take your advice into account. Tesco have only emailed their own Fraud department so far who haven't yet called (I thought it'd be a 24/7 helpline!!) but hopefully they are checking into things as are the police, although I'm aware that with so much time passing and not knowing there had been a problem so long ago, there may be little the police can do. I have faith in the banking ombudsman though!
I'll be signing out now but thank you to all for constructive comments!

How are you operating a Santander account without the archaic medium of a mobile phone, which is mandatory for receiving OTP codes? Similar for Tesco - how did you ever manage to log into your Tesco online account without receiving an authorisation code to your mobile phone at least once?

I like it how Telephone calls are "archaic" yet you are quite happy to send letters in the post and use cheques (which I actually find archaic and are my least favourite method of transferring money due to how slow they are!).

Bank transfers are no more insecure than using online banking itself. All you need to do is send a test payment of £1 and once you confirm it has been received successfully then send the full amount.

I never send money to an account that I don't have online access to (assuming it's available for that account) and after making a £1 test payment.

If your worried about security then a Windows XP computer which will likely have an out of date and unsupported browser running free antivirus is extremely insecure!.

The PO Bank is widely known for absolutely abysmal customer service, which seems to tally with your experience. As they have nothing to do with Tesco, they are not relevant in the context.

I can confirm from my own experience that the telephone support by Tesco CS is excellent. If someone thinks phones are archaic, they should best stay away from banks that do not offer branch access.

I have to say, this is one of the strangest threads i've ever read.

It sounds to me like it's someone local to the OP or some kind of keylogger that has caused the issue rather than Tesco Bank being hacked just to acquire the OPs 3k savings pot.

I doubt some obscure note on the account that the OP refuses landline or mobile contact was helpful.

For what it's worth, Tesco Bank doesn't actually have any direct link into Clubcard itself, so any security issues with Clubcard points or cards have zero relevence to the bank.
