rbh - ignore the disbelief implied in posts 18, 21 and 22.

Tesco have had a number of problems with their onlnine banking system, as have most Banks, over the years. These tend to have occurred after a security upgrade or similar alteration.

I have always gone into a Tesco store to phone about any online problems with their Bank, as very recently. In my case, living in an area of low conectivity does not aid matters.

This is my strong suggestion to you.

Make timed and dated notes throughout the call, with name/position of persons spoken with. [The calls are not then at your cost.]
Ensure that you are speaking with someone who has full authority to set offers, agreements and dates.
Ensure you know when that person is next at work and agree your next calling time to them, again from in-store.
You simply make VERY clear, courteously, that FULL REIMBURSEMENT WITH RELATED INTEREST, within 5 working days, is required.
If negotiation on timescale is required, negotiate on that, but not on anything else and not beyond 10 working days.
Before closing the call, go through a bullet point list to be agreed by both parties.
Calls are generally recorded, so should act as evidence for you.

There have been, especially several years back when Tesco changed their online banking system. Many of us found our Clubcard Plus money disappearing into a black hole. That was some months in the sorting out.

No poster should be disbelieved simply because you have not read of something online.

Not sure what your definition of "several years back" is but just to repeat, the Tesco current accounts have only been available since June 2014, just over 2 years. In my view, that's hardly "several years back". As I said earlier, the OP is the first person who has reported a potential security issue with the current account on this forum.

The fact that Tesco has had trouble with their Clubcard Plus accounts doesn't mean there is a security issue with their current accounts.

Whilst I have full sympathy for the OP and I hope they get it sorted soon, your post implies that this was somehow Tesco's fault and they should reimburse asap. The fact is, someone knew the answers to OP's questions and cleared security. It's definitely worth seeing if Tesco will reimburse but imo OP is better off pushing the police into acting quickly on this one.

Yes Windows on both. XP on the desktop PC and Windows 8 something on the laptop (just about got in before Windows 10 to avoid the Disneyfication of that!).

Microsoft stopped issuing security updates for XP in April 2014 so that computer is vulnerable. If continued use of this operating system is "gross negligence" then Tesco may not be liable for your losses.

I really can't believe that you sent a cheque to Tesco bank account and you were unable to check the funds were in the account and all you did was send letters!. Letters take days to be received and replied too!. If I had £3000 unaccounted for I would have rang them up immediately!. I think it's pretty stupid that you didn't ring them up just because you choose not to use phones.

Then you have two computers running the fee AVG antivirus which is nowhere near good enough for complete protection of a computer. Also have a computer still running Windows XP only makes things worse!.

You really need to start taking online and banking security more seriously so something like this doesn't happen again!.

Plus why did you use a cheque to pay the money in when you obviously have access to online banking so could have done a faster payment online?

That opportunity passed long since, the fraud (or 'fraud', depending on level of scepticism) was over five months ago now....
