Feel as if I'm in a safe place to share so here goes. Re the unwanted hair thing, has any body else had the opposite happen? I can't remember the last time I had to shave my pits or my legs which is a bit of a billy bonus imo. BUT its really thinning 'down below' which I find really embarassing given that I have just started having sex again after being single for 12 years (Go me!:D) Is anyone else going bald in the tufty club or just me.:o
If this is a symptom of the change, it's certainly another one that they don't tell you about
*Raises hand* Yep, me too. I have no idea if it's lupus, menopause, or a combination of the two, but my legs don't get a lot of regrowth these days, haven't had to bother with the ol' pits for months and months, and as for the ...er... "rest" - yay :T that's going as well now. As far as I'm concerned, the sooner the better, saves me attacking it with scissors/razor. (I hate, hate, HATE "pant beard")
I just wish my head hair would stay put!! *cries*

Crafty witch........as this is a moneysaving website then console yourself that you are not having to pay for a "Hollywood Wax".......Ouch. Can't think of anything more unpleasant - having a bikini wax was bAd enough. At least I don't have to face those any more. :D

Congrats on your new sex life.......:D

    ENjoy.

Hi all, I see you have been having a little fun here. I have shaved my bush since I was a teenager, I have always hated all that pubic hair. I never had to shave my legs until I was pregnant, the fine blonde hair turned dark and coarse. Now I hardly have to shave them since the menopause. I will always try my best to look for good in a bad situation. Picking up on hair loss. When my late Mother first had cancer, I bought her a few wigs, as chemo made all her hair drop out. She has never used them. Now she has passed away, they are in a box in my wardrobe. If anyone wants them, they are free, just cover the postage. They are all blonde I'm afraid. If you want pics, I will have to figure out how to do that.

If do remember reading somewhere a couple or three years back that us in the north of Ireland and those in the highlands of Scotland should take an hour a day ( preferably at mid day) outside without sunscreen

I personally gave up on the sunscreen on my body when I moved here. My face I'm vain enough to carry on.

Mostly we get sunshine after 4 pm. Seriously it can pee down, blow a gale, chuck hail at you, come 4pm it's like a summers day. Lovely for about 2 hours then although still sunny, the sea breeze bites

I have really struggled with the lack of sunlight since moving here. It is a blessing that the country is so beautiful though! And I love the variety of weather :) I am going to ask the doctor for a Vitamin D test and then have it repeated in February.

Floxxie, my doctor only tested me because of my symptoms, they wouldn't test just to let me know what my level was. I'm in Scotland though, and that might just be down to my practice.
  • Floxxie,

I know what you mean re struggling with the weather.

I was commenting to someone here today re how often it rains here and she reckoned that the Vitamin D effect can happen through the clouds. I don't know if that's true or no and so it's just a case of mentally adapting to worse-weather-than-you're-used-to. I'm still struggling at that level - ie with checking what the weather is doing before going out - rather than just going out and not even bothering to think about it.

But this person didnt seem to reckon it made any difference whether it was sunny or cloudy to whether Vitamin D was being "generated" or no. Does anyone know?

You can't get vitamin D through cloud from what I've read, part of the reason Scotland's rates are so bad.

edit: that can't be true though because you can get burned through cloud - must just take longer to get it?

TBH, I'd only bother about it if you symptoms you thought could be attributable to a lack of Vitamin D.

As for weather, it doesn't really bother me as much as it does others. I hate hard winters, especially when I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. Don't like rain and high winds either, but when I lived in Australia I got completely sick of blue skies and sun all the time. Nice to be able to arrange things outside but it got monotonous in the end.
  • Re the Vitamin D from sunlight we've been talking about - I've just had my latest magazine from my health insurer and there's an article in there on this.

It answers one question and raises another one.

I was wondering how much one needs to have exposed to the sun to get that Vit. D and it says "forearms or lower legs uncovered" (ie as well as the standard face and hands). Right - that answers that then = be wearing either shorts or short sleeves. Exposure to be 10-15 minutes daily between 11am-3pm March to October.

But, possibly, raises another question - as it says thats sufficient for "Most people with light skin tones" and I sat there and thought "Most??". So which ones of us don't count as in that "most"? I'll just assume that doesnt include me then....

So I guess its down to taking a supplement from 1 November to 28/29 February and on any days one hasnt been outside around midday with that level of clothing on.....

Personally - having read that weaker muscles can be down to Vit D deficiency - then that was me buying some of it yesterday then - as I know my own are weaker than they were and exercise alone doesnt seem to have got them back to normal yet.

Interesting about the vitamin D. Now it's school holidays, the kids are sleeping in until late afternoon and not leaving the house before 3pm - I expect them to have rubber bones by September ;)

I've been waking up feeling sick a lot this week and Google tells me that this can be caused by sleep apnea. DH has told me many times over the last couple of years that I hold my breath during my sleep. I was just looking that up and it said it can be due to being overweight (which I am) but also hormone changes during menopause! Yet another menopause symptom I had never heard of.
I really think more should be done to inform us about the change!

    Hey everyone,

Catching up in the thread and have spoken to my Mum about her & my Grandma's experiences with the menopause. I am 52 and haven't a period for two years now, tbh that part of it is a complete relief to me as always suffered badly with my monthlies, endometriosis etc so not bleeding every 28 days is great.
Re my Mum she finished at the same age as me so follows on, she opted not to take HRT and neither have I but guess it's all down to personal choice? The hot flushes seem to come and go but am yet to experience the dreaded night sweats which were the bane of my Mum's life apparently. That said my Grandma hardly had a symptom so let's hope I take after her in that respect.
The hair issue, hmm, it's getting sparser in some places but I am certainly getting fuzzier in the face, keeping it at bay at the moment using scissors and the ocasionaly threading but suspect it's only going to get worse.
Brain fog? Oh yes, that awful point at which you stop halfway through a sentence because you literally can't remember what you were saying and your normal quick mind just loses the plot, sigh.
One other thing for me is joint pain, especially my hips and Achilles, am a reasonably active lady but my heels especially are really bad first thing in the morning, feels like rigor mortis has set in over night :rotfl: so have started taking a glaucosamine supplement with interestingly has an amount of Vit D in it so hopefully that will help my body absorb calcium etc as well?
