I just take Holland and Barrett Vitamin D3 1000 IU. My level was 40 so not too bad- been taking them for 8 months now, do you not think they'll have made any difference? My doctor felt they'd help with the very bad muscle pain in my neck and shoulder, and they have disappeared but could be just down to my ever changing peri symptoms I suppose.0 -
Crafty Witch - I,m sure Hester could crochet you up a 'merkin' if it becomes an issue :rotfl:
I,ve climbed aboard the menopause express, GP has put me in the pill to help, much to Hubby,s amusement - apparently at my age, my eggs should be powdered... :eek:Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
£300/£1300 -

It does depend on your existing levels and weight, but my level drops when I take 2000iu a day. What unit was that test as it matters, if it was nmol/l then that is really low, if ng/ml then low, but not too bad. After 8 months it might be worth asking your GP for another test .0 -
I was reading re the skin types and reckon I'm Skin Type II. I'd assumed that, as I'm "adapted to the climate" I'm in - ie with my paler colouring, typical "Western" clothing, etc - that there'd be no problem re Vit. D unless I headed up some distance northward and maybe not even then (as I've got Scottish blood in me only a few generations back and am on the paler side for a British person). Must investigate further on that and bear in mind that I probably am outdoors less than my norm these days (courtesy of worse weather here than I'm used to).
Re the "bush" - yep....me too. No hair on my legs at all anymore - which is one of the blessings of getting older (though it was never a "problem" to me anyway). Underarm hair - a lot sparser and that's a "positive". But...yep....to that as well and I think I would probably feel a bit self-conscious about that if I were "involved". But then - it may well be that the same applies to men too??0 -

It is 40 nmol/l which isn't really low according to my doctor. The NHS say that above 50 is sufficient for most people so I'm not concerned. Am really trying to have a break from going to the doctor at the moment as I feel you end up in a cycle of tests and retests, but I'll keep it in mind as I will go to get ferratin rechecked sometime.0 -

I get very confused personally by the words "this country" - as I mean the whole of the country when I say that (ie Lands End to John O Groats and including Wales) - but others mean just the part of the country they are in.
If do remember reading somewhere a couple or three years back that us in the north of Ireland and those in the highlands of Scotland should take an hour a day ( preferably at mid day) outside without sunscreen
I personally gave up on the sunscreen on my body when I moved here. My face I'm vain enough to carry on.
Mostly we get sunshine after 4 pm. Seriously it can pee down, blow a gale, chuck hail at you, come 4pm it's like a summers day. Lovely for about 2 hours then although still sunny, the sea breeze bites0 -
Lol, Island Maid, well I've made willy warmers so I'm sure I could manage a merkin, maybe that could be a business venture for my retirement. Made to Measure Merkins in various colours, I could even add beads and sequins!Chin up, Titus out.0

Ooooh sequins for me please Hard up Hester :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Seriously though, makes me feel less of a freak now that I know it's not just me
I must have been really naive, I was expecting hot flushes and my periods to stop. The reality is very different isn't it?
I can totally cope with the flushes (although I am still getting the odd period here and there so flushes could get worse I suppose) The worst thing for me is the brain fog iykwim. Does this improve at all or am I stuck with it?
I found cutting right down on sugar helped the flushes (and the palpitations) enormously0 -
I had the brain fog early on and it was quite scary. It reminded me of being drunk. Don't know if the agnus castus helped, but I don't get it anymore and am just back to my normal terrible memory.
I was very naive too, still can't believe I have to put up with heavier and more frequent periods, think I can cope with anything once this stage is past.0 -
There is a plus side - at any rate for some of us - re the way the mind is functioning. I never had "brain fog" - whew! I did have a bit of PMT back during Period Days. I did figure it out eventually that my mood might not be "My" mood for a couple of days just before the period each time. Hence - any time I caught myself feeling anxious/irritable I would ask myself whether it was "my own" feelings or some sort of hormonal PMT thing going on. I would think "There is anxiety/irritability and I don't think its ME feeling that way" and, sure enough, a couple of days later I would realise that hadnt been my own feelings - as the period would start.
So - it's a plus to be rid of that couple of days a month my feelings arent "My" own thing going on. Personally - my mind/emotions feel a lot clearer, a lot more "my own" than they ever did at any time of the month back when. That is a big plus - to just have the mind calmly working out whats what. If someone has upset me (even if they've done it deliberately) to know my mind will "come in" pretty quickly and think "that's nonsense - now get your emotions calm again by doing such-and-such" or, if all else fails, then cut yourself some slack and buy a bottle of wine to "drown it" with until the emotions stabilise again.0
