Hello there,
I have had bright pink dye from a brand new £20 Summer dress transfer onto a £975 Louis Vuitton handbag. It was the first time I wore the dress which I bought from an online shop on 11th June last month. The dress came with no warnings or stickers advising that the dye would transfer - I would not have bought it had I known this. I have tried to clean the dye transfer but its permanently damaged my bag by staining it bright pink (it's a cream bag). I have been in touch with the online shop, but no one has responded to me as of yet. I now have a damaged bag that I can't use and a dress I can't wear. What are my consumer rights and can I go about claiming a replacement handbag and refund for the dress? I have all receipts and photo evidence. Your advice is much appreciated. Many thanks.

Is the online shop based in the UK or not?? Did you pay by credit card?

I suspect that even if you have rights to a replacement bag and new dress, it is going to be very difficult to enforce them without small claims.

    Still, I wish you luck.

Clothes don't have to come with a warning. Anything a bright colour has no doubt had a lot of dye used to get it that colour.

How many times did you wash the dress before wearing?

What have you done to try and get the dye off the bag?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Thanks for your reply. It is a UK company called Bows Boutique online. I paid via Visa Debit card on PayPal.

I wouldn't try any diy removal methods on an expensive bag as they will likely also remove any treatments on the leather leaving that area more susceptible to further staining and marking.

    Blimey

Send the bag back to LV and ask them to clean it for you, (£975 on a bag) get a receipt, see if you can claim on your insurance, or the company who sold the £20 dress.

You aren't going to get any money back from the online shop - so you need to be claiming off your house insurance for the cost of cleaning/replacing the bag - the bag IS insured, right?
