Looking to find the missus' size!

Hi guys,
I'm looking to get something really special for my girlfriend's birthday this year. I know she reads these forums so I'm trying to keep a little anonymous. (Will post results after!)
Anyway, I was thinking of getting her some jewellery! I'm looking at size guides right now.
Do I just get her something that I think I can find in her size? For example I reckon I can get her a necklace that fits! Is a ring too much?
I really don't want to her to open the gift and for it not to fit!
Background information if required: Been together for 2 years, moved in together 6 months ago

What a lovely idea!
Quick thought - she does already wear jewellery? Necklaces, rings etc? And change them around?
(Just checking that you aren't breaking new ground, or creating dilemmas of do I keep wearing pre-existing sentimental necklace or enjoy new gift?!)
Easiest way to get a ring that fits is to see what she's been wearing & measure it. There are paper charts you can print off, but I'd still wonder about size as printing can be a bit variable. If you can borrow unnoticed a comfortable/popular/often worn but not daily ring, splendid - whisk it to a jewellers, ask them what size it is (usually a letter), write it down, thank them & get the ring back safe!
Necklaces - have a look to see what she prefers to wear, and then whip out the trusty tapemeasure. Necklaces are usually sold in inches length despite decimalisation. Again, Write it down. (Stick it in a phone contact?)
Before parting with money, do check the returns policy. Just in case she's touched & delighted but wanted a different colour to go with her favourite outfit.
Best of luck!0 -
I would go for a necklace or a bracelet/bangle. I would avoid ring shaped boxes as after 2 years she may be disappointed if she was hoping for an engagement ring!0

Yeah she wears other jewellery. I've bought her a cheap ring before from the jewel hut and it worked out alright, but I want to get this spot on. I can't for the life of me remember what size she is and I'm looking at their size guide... I see a bracelet measuring guide where I print it off and I assume sneak it around her wrist while she's asleep? I'm not sure, but i've realised there's a lot of potential to look like a creep while trying to find out your girlfriend's size, isn't there?
I'm looking at Pandora bracelets right now... maybe a bracelet and a couple of charms would be nice? I'm looking at an Owl charm (she loves owls) and a cheesy lovey dovey charm... I'd love to find a NICE charm with a heart on it that isn't a bit OTT!!!0 -
Pandora is a good idea if she is into that, I would say just buy something you think is about her size and she can always exchange it with them if it doesn't fit - she'll love it regardless so sure she won't mind taking a trip to the shop after to get it right.
I guess you'll spoil it if you have to ask her or she catches you measuring so I know what I would prefer to doPeople don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Most bracelets are a fairly standard size, so unless your OH has particularly skinny or chubby wrists you'll probably be OK.
Bangles can be a particular preference if you like them or not I think. I find them annoying and uncomfortable to wear as they are rigid. A flexible bracelet such as Pandora is easier to wear IMO.Make £2025 in 2025

I have a Links of London bracelet which I love. Mine isn't a charm bracelet, but they do the Sweetie ones which you can put charms on. Most of their bracelets are pretty well all size fits everyone, so unless she's very overweight I don't think you could go wrong there.0

Do you have a really good idea of her taste in jewellery and know what she would like? I think it could be quite risky to buy her an expensive Pandora bracelet and a couple of charms if she doesn't actually like them.
Could you maybe take her out shopping on her birthday and let her choose something she likes?
My OH bought me a necklace for my birthday a few years ago that he was certain I would love...it looked like something his grandma would wear :rotfl:0 -
I too think buying something that you are not sure she'll like is risky.
I don't like Pandora bracelets and would be horrified if my OH bought one for me.
I do like bangles and have a number of 1960/1970/1980 silver hallmarked ones from ebay.
Have you considered a decent watch?
The Citizen Ecodrive and Seiko Solar ranges are good.0 -
If you want something lovely and classy which is going to fit (unless she has REALLY small or very large wrists) then I'd go for something from Links of London like the Sweetie XS bracelet (http://www.linksoflondon.com/gb-en/sweetie-xs-sterling-silver-mini-charm-bracelet/prod=5010-1067?catid=1583), or the Effervescence Star XS bracelet (http://www.linksoflondon.com/gb-en/effervescence-star-xs-sterling-silver-bracelet/prod=5010-2057?catid=1583) - get them in the Medium size. These XS versions are quite delicate and pretty and you can wear lots of them together. They're around £120-£150, so on the expensive side, but if you're thinking of Pandora then adding a couple of charms would cost that much anyway.
I wouldn't measure her wrists - most bracelet sizes are fine unless she's very small or has very large wrists. Also, look at her jewellery to see if she prefers gold or silver - most women tend to prefer one IMO! I also echo what someone else said - don't buy a bangle unless you know she likes them.' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
Have you ever seen her wear a bracelet? If not, if she likely to want to start now?
It is a lovely idea to try and surprise her, but jewellery is so personal - be very careful that you make it clear she can return anything she doesn't like!0
