Hermes alleged delivery attempt

I waited in all day (in beautiful sunshine) for a Hermes tracked delivery. When I checked it said [FONT=&quot]Parcel Tracking Number xxxxxxxxxxxxx etc 21/07/2016 15:18 Delivery attempt made, allow 24h on 22/07/2016"

I was in waiting at home for the delivery and no one pressed my buzzer or left a card. I feel a bit frustrated because there seems to be no way of getting them to redeliver tomorrow when I can, again, be in. It seems to be impossible to contact Hermes to get a quick reply from them. I am certain that my doorbell was not pressed. I can't think why the driver would not deliver.

I don't suppose there is anything I can do but wait although if anyone has any ideas I'll be pleased to hear them. I'm not on Facebook to ask a question and it seems as if Hermes cannot be contacted with any ease. Just now I'm feeling very let down by Hermes. I can imagine them wanting to deliver next week when it will be much more difficult for me.

Thank you

How do you know this? They may well deliver tomorrow when you are again in.

Thanks marcarm. I asked the company I ordered from and they said it would take 24 hours before they could get back to me. If I have jumped the gun, I apologise - although I definitely was in, door buzzer working , and no delivery person called today.

    Thanks for replying.

Hermes delivery is great because it's cheap.
They make three attempts to deliver .
One of the problems is, they are just ordinary people delivering self employed with their vehicle , which I think is a very good business model.
However, because they are self employed, some refuse to give a mobile contact number. Therein lies the problem.
I've not had too many problems and can only sing their praises!

Thanks hollydays - it is puzzling that I was definitely in waiting for the delivery and the buzzer did not ring - it is working. I' ll be pleased it they deliver tomorrow but I' m concerned in case it is a repeat of today.

  • I've had this recently too, I put it down to the delivery driver deciding he wasn't coming to our village that day, so marked it as a failed delivery.
He brought it the next day.

Thanks Rolandthe roadie. I'll check their tracking again hoping they do deliver today - again I' ll stay in and wait. Sadly if they let me down I won' t agree to have Hermes in the future.

With Royal Mail or Parcel Force if they cannot deliver a card is left and the item can be picked up nearby at the local sorting office.

I was so disappointed as I waited in my flat and it was a beautiful sunny day outside.

I find that Hermes can be quite variable depending on your local individual. A few years ago they were pretty good but last week they flubbed it again... Parcel on order from John Lewis; auto e-mail from Hermes saying they had put the parcel through the letterbox at 2013 on Wednesday. No they didn't - we were in and the package should be too big for a letterbox. Checked with neighbours, no sign, so called JL Customer Services on Thursday. They promised to chase up. Friday, we get a card from Hermes saying parcel left with neighbour. It was 3 times the size of the letterbox! No explanation from Hermes of what they thought had delivered to who on Wednedsay.
I need to think of something new here...

I have had this happen multiple times. A failed delivery doesn't actually seem to mean they tried to deliver. Last week I had failed delivery notifications on three days even though I was in. When the company I ordered from chased Hermes they said the delivery vehicle was off the road so they hadn't been delivering to my area all week. It seems there is no way to put a note on the system about a problem at their end so they mark it as failed delivery.

It's not just Hermes, and it's not just consumer deliveries.

At my work we were waiting for critical materials to arrive. These were in 4 boxes sent via DHL. We received 1 box. We later checked the tracking for the remaining 3 boxes to find "Delivery refused by recipient" ... !!!!!!?!?

This happened twice more. After much gnashing of teeth and finally getting to speak with someone at DHL who could actually think for themself (rather than read a script), we finally discovered that the DHL driver was waiting for the 4th box (that had already been delivered) before making the delivery, was essentially lying on the system and hadn't even attempted delivery of the remaining 3 boxes.

Needless to say he got a rocket up his butt and the boxes arrived 20 minutes later. :D

My friend works for Hermes, the reason for the above is thus...

They need to scan the parcels that are manifested to them each day to ensure they stay tracked on their system. Once they've been tracked they either have to deliver them or carry them over to the next day.

Their system does not allow them to simply put something to the effect ran out of time or van broke down etc. The tracking system will just show it as a failed delivery.
