S max more practical than Mondeo with the boot seats.

Having looked at my budget, unfortunately i will need to reduce it to £7500 for a car.Seen plenty of S-Max for this price. But they tend to have a very high mileage,is this something i should be concerned about and is the 2L diesel the better option?

You would be wise to ponder whether, for the type and locations of the camping that you do, an estate car with four wheel drive would be preferable.

Plenty of those available, secondhand, in fine condition, for less than £7,500.

You should also bear in mind that what might seem zippy when driven alone on your 400 mile commute may struggle (not least for traction) when carrying five people, all their camping gear and a full tank of fuel up a steep, wet, rural, unmade road.

Hence the importance of not buying something underpowered.

Mind you, by the time you finally make a decision after your seemingly endless deliberations over what to buy, the camping season is likely to be over for another year.

Four wheel drive, road tyres and no extra ground clearance over an estate car. He's not going to be going that far off road is he?
