That still applies in many parts of Greece. It all depends on if a place is linked to the main sewerage system or has septic tanks. I know plenty of places in Athens that still have septic tanks, including my OH's house.
Septic tanks or cesspits can handle toilet paper, the problem tends to be the pipe work connecting it is too narrow and so clogs easily.0
