Actually, my main concern at the moment is quite simply that the wall he's building on is unsafe. The boundary stuff is all secondary to me, there are kids who live in that house and he could be building a potential deathtrap.

That's not how your original post and title reads but, hey ho, in which case just get them to reinforce the boundary wall and enjoy the extra rainwater.

I've had a day to think and, to clarify, right now my main #1 concern is that they're building something that could potentially collapse on their kids. Thanks for the sarcasm though, much appreciated. :T

And that can happen when you appear to change track, albeit you are perfectly entitled to as it is your thread.

I just don't think are seeing the longer-term picture (potential for additional damp in your property, issues around boundaries if you were to ever sell) but that's fine; it's your property.

I'm seeing it all very clearly thanks but, again, cheers for the further sarcasm. Just what's needed at the moment.

Look, it's not sarcasm; that is the reality.

I tried to help, even jotted down what I thought you should ask the builder, as you were concerned over when / how this communication might happen. Obviously, my focus was on the boundary issue as this is what you had started with.

I'm happy to leave you to it. Hope it works out for you.

Sorry but writing "enjoy the extra rainwater" counts as sarcasm in my book. Cheers for your help anyway.

Clearly the guy constructing this is not a builder by trade.

I'd be telling them in no uncertain terms to stop the 'building' work, the top of the wall is falling apart - it certainly isn't stable enough to support the new construction (even though it is attached by the expanding foam :) ).

    Absolutely ridiculous.

If those cables indicate the boundary, then the roof is already over your said, without even considering rainwater or guttering. The time to sort this out is immediately.

I'd probably get up a ladder to inspect it - who knows what could happen to such a fragile structure if any pressure was accidentally applied?

Your first step needs to be establishing who owns the wall in question, at this stage it could be yours, it could be your neighbours, or it could be a party fence wall.

It's probably best to ignore anyone on here who claims to know who owns the wall in question after viewing the photos you've posted ;)

I'm wondering if it's possible to get "officialdom" in on this - ie re the unsafe structure bit?

Does anyone know if, for instance, the Council Planning Office might be interested in this?

Personally - I'd get my facts clear (ie re laws and planning) and then take the day off work Monday ready to greet this builder. I would certainly suspect he has no intention whatsoever of hanging around after work to speak to you - you're likely to get some feeble "excuse" that he had to "rush off to deal with x" or other instead.
