QR code on ebay labels

Do the QR codes on RM labels get scanned?
Someone is claiming INR when I've printed a label and dropped it in a post box (most likely the one at the general PO given the day/time of label).
Just wondering how I'm supposed to proceed. Surely those QR codes would tell you that the item is in the system somewhere? If they don't scan them then what's the point of them?
Also, if buyer hasn't asked for tracked delivery is the loss going to be automatically my fault?
If I need to apply for lost parcel compensation, how do I do that?
Sorry, I've never had this INR happen before but I have a fair few sales and a 300-ish feedback - none negative. I really don't want to be out of pocket when I've done nothing wrong and have used their own postage system. Some advice would be great as I wait out the 8 day escalation period.
Thanks in advance.

I've seen a few of these lately, and my postman has never been able to scan them sucessfully. My mobile phone also has a QR and barcode reader, and while it can do barcodes OK it can't do QR codes. It is probably due to printer settings possibly?
Chances are they postman couldn't scan it so just handed it over.0 -
Yes they are being scanned but delivery data isn't available to you just yet (it's coming very soon). Whether your buyer knows this and whether you can bluff you way out the claim are another thing....In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0

hmm interesting!
At the moment it's their word against mine, but I was sure those QRs are scanned because they use them to refund void-label claims.
The only way I'm happy to refund is if I get full compensation back. It's really annoyed me how unhelpful ebay chat was this morning.Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!0 -
Yes, they are scanned, as has been said above. BUT, the scanning on delivery is not available to you yet. There is talk that it will be in late August.
You cannot with-hold a refund until you get full compensation, that isn't the buyer's problem. If you can't prove delivery you need to refund. Then claim. You can download the form from the RM website.
DO NOT WAIT UNTIL DAY 8. Or you will lose the case AND get a dashboard strike.0 -

I second this.
OP have a read of the sticky postage thread on this board , the only way to win an INR is to prove delivery using online tracking. As you don't have online tracking you MUST refund before the case is escalated otherwise you lose the money, *and* your fees and you get a defect. If you refund before the case is escalated you get your fees back and no defect.
Also, unless you have proof of postage (and if you dropped it in the post box then you don't) it will be be almost impossible to claim any compensation. That however is your problem, and not the buyers problem. If a claim can be made, and again I would suggest this is near impossible , it can be started after 15 working days.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I had forgotten about the fees not being reimbursed. An even more valid point. The seller (if not unduly bothered by a defect) will lose the item, the outward postage and her fees if she is tardy in the refund.0 -

It really does not matter if you are happy to refund or not. Its the sellers responsibility if the parcel is lost. Put yourself in the customers place, f you ordered something which did not arrive then would you be happy if the seller did not refund.
The buyer does not have the option of deciding if an item is tracked or signed for, its up to you as a seller to decide which postage to use based on the price of the item and the risk you are prepared to take in sending that item.
If my items achieve a better price than I expected I sometimes choose to use the enhanced postage but I do it for my benefit so I dont charge it to the buyer.
Even with normal 2nd class postage you need to be taking itto the Post Office and getting a 'proof of posting'. Dropping something in a post box is a big no with Ebay. How much was the item worth?0 -

If only ebay saw it like that eh. But they dont. you upload proof the buyer received their goods or they get refunded from your money.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Strictly speaking, it's not a QR code, but a specific form of DataMatrix, known as 'Mailmark'0
